Katie Woodard

@ramblingsketcher

Using mostly watercolor, Katie Woodard hunts for all the nooks and crannies of New York City in her loose but unbelievably detailed sketch style. Just like a fast traveling treasure hunter, her work is pocket sized and fits the rather “Big Apple” into a snug miniature you’ll always keep nearby.

@drawing_dawum

Less is more, done tastefully. How many lines does it take to draw a face? How many to make it alive? Dawum is all about finding simplicity.

Paul Heaston

@paulheaston

My most important influence. Heaston showed me nothing is too complex and anything can be tackled if you are confident enough. Everything from his guideline-less fountain pen strokes, to his quiet studies of his daughter fill me with a sense of purpose beyond making a pretty picture.

David Morales H.

@dava22

I see urban sketchers as travelers who learned to use art to find their own way. Morales was my introduction to the scene, and I closely studied how he viewed subjects in hopes that I could soon develop my own sketch language. Thanks to his work, I took the first steps out of my comfort zone and began to draw for fun and appreciate my surroundings more.

Comics/Manga

1970’s - 1990’s

The Saturday morning daydreaming superheroes of yesterday still catch my eye and fog my head many years later. The meticulous planning of page layouts, story writing and concept art make me bow in respect for these master artist, for without them, I would have probably never started on the path to be an artist.
