Dual Enrollment is purposeful:

  • Effective dual enrollment
    • Aligns with academic goals, future plans, or exploration for students considering multiple post-secondary paths
    • Is balanced across content areas and avoids specialization
    • Is NOT stacking advanced courses in one or two specific content areas
  • Why?
    • Admissions officers value breadth and depth - too much of either can be a detriment to college applications.
    • Universities prefer students to complete advanced coursework during their degree for proper sequencing and content integration.

How it works:

  • Students spend 1 or 2 blocks each day at the University of Louisville.

(Each UofL course requires the same block on both red/white days to be available)

  • UofL classes will reflect on student’s Manual schedule and transcript.
  • Students will establish an official UofL transcript.
  • The KDE Dual Credit Scholarship Program funds two scholarships per student for dual credit coursework. After the scholarships are disbursed, students are responsible for tuition. The current reduced rate for tuition is $97 per credit hour.
  • Coursework must be taken in-person (not virtual) on UofL campus.
  • Coursework must be selected from the list of approved courses.
  • Juniors are restricted to 1 course per block during their Fall semester.

UofL Policies

Grading scale and class attendance policy will be communicated by the university professor on the course syllabus.

Under FERPA privacy guidelines, professors cannot communicate progress with parents. Only the student can access his/her/their grades.

Final semester grades become part of the student’s permanent college record.

Transferring College Credits

Students must request a copy of their transcript be sent to other institutions through UofL. To be considered official, the transcript must be from the university Registrar. (Manual staff cannot do this for students.)

The student should contact their prospective college/university for transfer credit guidelines.

Students enrolling in and completing a college course will establish a college transcript. The grade will be automatically recorded on their student record at UofL.

If the student wishes to continue education at UofL, the credits will automatically appear on the student’s record.
