INTRODUCTION:
1. electronic ink is a kind of display technology. It can show almost the same effect as the real ink on paper.
2. Electronic-ink is actullay a straightforward fusion of chemistry, physics and electronics.
3.This technology mainly deals with Electronic Ink Display devices like E-readers, E-Newspapers. This technology uses the process called Electrophoretic technology.
RECENT TECHNOLOGY:
1. The new certification was awarded to E Ink's color ePaper display using the latest E Ink Kaleido™ Plus technology.
2. E Ink Kaleido offers 16 gray levels and 4,096 colors, making it suitable for rich graphical information such as graphs, maps, images and advertising..
BLOCK DIAGRAM:
WORKING PRINCIPLE:
1. With e-ink technology, tiny microcapsules are suspended in a liquid that is encased within a film layer. The microcapsules, which are roughly the width of a human hair, contain positively charged white particles and negatively charged black particles.
2. Applying a negative electrical field causes the white particles to rise to the surface. Conversely, applying a positive electrical field causes the black particles to rise to the surface. By applying different fields at different parts of a screen, e-ink produces a monochromatic text display.
3. E-ink displays are especially popular because of they resemble printed paper. In addition to being easier on the eyes than other display types, e-ink consumes less power, especially when compared to backlit liquid crystal display (LCD) screens.
4. These advantages, along with its early adoption by major e-reader manufacturers such as Amazon and Sony, caused e-ink to dominate the early e-book reader market.
APPLICATIONS:
eReaders:
E-ink Active Matric displays deliver the best reading experience with the highest contrast and longest battery life for eReader
Keypads:
E-ink segmented displays make it possible to offer breakthrough designs such as dynamic keypads.
watches:
it inspire innovation designs and shapes using the lowest power requirements and added durability
Indicators:
E-ink segmented displays enable engineering and designers to add high contrast display where power and space limitations have made it impossible.
ADVANTAGES OF E-INK:
1. they only use power when they are being refresh .
2. Electronic-ink displays are reflective.
3. the more electronic power can be saved compared with the same size LCD screen.
4. E-paper is friendly to the environment
5. E Ink's technology is commonly referred to as "bistable"
DISADVANTAGES OF E-INK:
1.It requires light source to read as there is no backlit like LCD.
2. It can not display color e-ink.
3. Very slow zoom.
4. It can only use shades of gray for display purpose.
5. It can not display moving images.
CONCLUSION:
1.Invented by joseph Jacobson and barrett Comiskey in MIT Media Lab in 1996.
2.It is being used in mobile phones, watches, indicators ETC.
3.Objects are displayed on the different moves of pigments.
4. electronic-ink having some disadvantages but advantages are more important and useful.
