What students should Expect?

  • 1 hour or more hours of classroom theory everyday
  • Homework 1-2 hours in 5-7 days

Start up list�

  • Welcome to Diesel Technologies. The following is a list of basic items that will be needed throughout the year to complete this program. These items are required and will be used on a daily basis in the classroom and shop area. Failure to have these items on a daily basis will render the student unprepared for class and he/she will not receive credit for that day’s class or shop activities.

Classroom

  • Multiple three ring binders with paper, for each different subject (i.e. brakes, transmissions, etc.)
  • Ball point pens, number 2 pencils
  • Colored pencils eight or more colors
  • 12 inch ruler
  • Eraser
  • Book Cover (Paper or fabric)
  • Basic Calculator

Shop

  • Mandatory Steel toe, leather work boots or shoes with oil resistant soles.
  • Mandatory at least one set of Properly Fitting work clothes consisting of; long pants, long sleeve shirt, and a hat or cap is optional. Preferably black in color. Sweatshirts and hooded sweat shirts should be black with no logo. Hood string should be removed for safety.
  • Work gloves are optional, but highly recommended, Synthetic and Nitrile.
  • All Personal Protective Equipment such as safety glasses (one pair) and/or goggles, hearing protection, chemical and leather gloves will be provided. Safety glasses are Mandatory at All time in the shop area.
  • Students are provided a locker room and locker for changing and storage of their clothes and belongings.
  • Students have access to the Diesel Shop tools to complete the program, but are encouraged to begin purchasing their own tools that will be needed in a work environment.(which can cost up to $ 1000.00 to start)
  • Should a student have any problems obtaining these items, the student should see the instructor and arrangements will be made to help obtain the proper materials. �

Classroom and Shop Rules

  • 1. Safety First- Always take a minute to think about safety, before starting a project. Serious personal injury or death can occur to you and/or your classmates.
  • 2. Absence or tardiness- most students who do not get credit for the program (20 credits toward graduation) fail due to excessive tardiness or absence. Be in class and fully prepared when the bell rings. (Text book, notebook, shop clothes, ect.)
  • 2. Safety glasses will always be worn in the shop area.
  • 3. If you don’t know what it is, don’t mess with it. Items in the shop area contain several hidden dangers if not properly handled.
  • 4. Cell phones, chained wallets, baggy pants, loose clothing, sun glasses, music players, and video games are items that do not belong or occur in the shop environment. Put it in your locker, or pick it up in June!
  • 5. Smoking is not allowed anywhere, anytime on school property, quit or leave them at home.
  • 6. Absence or Tardiness – most students who do not get credit for the program, 20 credits toward graduation requirement, or fail due to excessive Absence or Tardiness. Be in class fully prepared when the bell rings. Text book, note book, shop clothes, boots pen pencil ect.
  • 7. Break time is a privilege. Ten minutes unless otherwise specified. Abuse it and loose it.
  • 8. Clean up time, is all the time. If you make a mess, clean up after yourself. There are no maids in the class or shop area unless you want to hire one.

  • 9. Teasing, sexual harassment, bullying, fighting, and horseplay are not acceptable in the work environment and are not acceptable in the Diesel program.
  • 10. Tools are the Class’s responsibility. Tools that are Stolen, Lost, or Damaged due to improper use are that class’s financial responsibility and shop activities will cease until the tools is replaced!
  • 11. Shop equipment, engines, transmissions, electrical components are extremely expensive ($50-45,000), anyone purposely misusing or damaging shop equipment will be financially responsible. If no one person is responsible the financial responsibility will fall on that class. Criminal Legal repercussions may occur.
  • 12. Work as a team, you all work well together.

Second year CIE or Work Study

  • Around the beginning of the third marking period students will have the opportunity to go to work instead of school
  • Report to class on Monday, complete class related work
  • Tuesday through Friday you go to Work
  • Your Employer and our CIE Coordinator issue a performance grade
  • Possibly turning into a full time career upon graduation

Questions?

  • Will my child receive a Degree, Certification or College Credit?
    • Completers receive a Certificate of Completion from the Mercer County Technical School.
    • Students are required to take the ASE Student Certification Test. They Will receive a ASE Student Certificate for the area’s the passed.
    • Some Colleges will allow students to test out 101 classes if they have passed the ASE Student test or equivalent.
    • Students are assigned and encouraged to take Free online manufactures training.
