Volunteer Donations Drive Guide
Medical and Dental Chapters are required to collect and bring supplies for Children and Adult Charla. You will prepare hygiene packs with these items.
We want to support you in your efforts to collect the required items! Please use this guide as well as your Brigade Leader and/or GB Support System as resources to help you for your chapter’s next brigade.

We require Medical and Dental Chapters to bring these items to donate to the patients that attend the Medical Brigade and serves to educate patients about hygiene practices.
Most patients do not have access to buy personal hygiene products due to the economic situation they live in.
The hygiene packs are given to the patients after they attended the Charla station of your Clinic Day.

Review your Donations inventory�Set a raising goal! All Medical and Dental Brigades are required to collect a specific amount of supplies and donations for their Medical Brigades. Feel free to reach out to your PA and he/she will be able to provide it.

Select a Committee�Gather a committee that wants to be an integral part of your drive and assign everyone specific tasks.

Make a Plan�Utilize this Asset Mapping Worksheet to figure out what resources you already have and what strategies will work best. Create a realistic timeline for your group.
Create a Sorting System�It is necessary taking donation inventory. A sorting system will ensure that all the donated items are unused and ready for redistribution.

Find Locations�If possible/desired, coordinate donation drive events and collections at multiple locations in your area: other schools, stores, banks, restaurants, pharmacies, or grocery stores.

Share Your Story�Share pictures and stories from your brigade experience. Sharing the impact you made with your supporters is a great way to secure repeat funding from alumni associations, educational institutions, or corporate sponsors.

Utilize Campus Chairperson’s Expertise�Encourage Brigade Leaders who are struggling with collecting items to reach out to their Campus Chairperson (CC’s know the campus well and strategies that work). If they don’t have a CC, help them get one!
Advertise your Drive!�There are different ways to bring awareness to your donation drive. Social media, flyers, handouts and other tools to reach out your donors.

Don’t give up!�Work to complete your inventory goal! Please remember that it has to be completed before the final deadline and communicated to your PA.

What To Accept�Make sure that all items are unused and are at least 9 months away from expiring at the time of your brigade start date.

Your Program Associate will provide to you the Supplies and Donations Inventory.
Assign a member to work with you to plan the drives and advertise your drive!
Look for potential partners and locations to have your Drive.
6-3 Months prior to Brigade
Update the Supplies and donations inventory.
Make sure the donations are unused and at least 9 months away from expiring.
Keep on the hard work and continue to meet your donation goal!
3-2 Months Prior to Brigade
Update the Supplies and donations inventory and communicate with your PA any details pending.
Start packing your donations that will be given to the patients you will see during your Clinic Days

Common Challenges and Solutions
If you were not able to collect all the supplies with your drive you can always purchase the items missing.
You can always refer to our Fundraising Tools in the Volunteer Resource Site to raise the funds to purchase this supplies.
Try to find local stores or organizations that are willing to donate some supplies to you.
Feel free to use this letter template to request donations to local organizations that are able to assist you.

You can use this guide to host a Plastic Bottle Drive!
Some states buy used plastic bottles for recycling purposes.
You can use that money to purchase the items of the supplies and donations list.
Host a Bottle Drive!
You can create an Amazon Wishlist with the items that you are collecting and share it with potential donors!
Amazon Wishlist/Amazon Smiles
If you want to purchase your donations with Amazon, you can use Amazon Smiles, they will donate 0.5% of eligible purchases to your favorite charitable organization, including GB!
