The Junior Interview

  • Interviews will be on Thursday, March 20
  • You will receive a pass in Canvas inbox on Friday, March 14th with your interview appointment time. Please report to Media 5 minutes before your scheduled time
  • Come prepared with your resume if you plan to refer to your resume during the interview.
  • Dress appropriately!

What not to wear:

  • Athletic/sportswear
  • Hoodies
  • Shorts or low-cut shirts
  • Flip-flops or sneakers

What to wear:

  • Button down shirts with professional pants
  • Clean and non-wrinkled clothes
  • Clothes that fit properly (not too big, and not too small)
  • Closed-toe professional shoes

Day-of Interview Tips

  • Dress appropriately – Dress for Success!
  • Arrive 5-10 minutes early
  • Maintain comfortable eye contact
  • Establish rapport
    • Introduce yourself clearly with your first and last name
    • Make eye contact with your interviewer.
    • Consider a hand shake
  • Reflect upon your skills and character strengths
  • Ask questions about college and career choices

Resumes due DATE

  • Students will turn in their resume to their English teacher by your teacher established deadline.
  • Teachers will submit resumes for each of their classes to STUDENT SERVICES by March 11th
  • If you miss your teacher’s established deadline OR if you take English at HCC, you must turn in a copy of your resume to Student Services by March 11th

Post Interview Evaluation

  • At the end of the interview:

    • The Interviewer will complete a checklist on the student
    • This is just feedback for you
    • This is not a grade

  • All students will get a copy of the feedback form completed for their interview.
  • Once the resume is handed in and you have completed the interview, your world of work requirement will be met!

Letters of Recommendation

How many are needed?

  • Colleges generally require two academic (Teacher) letters and one counselor letter of recommendation.

Who should students ask and When?

  • Students should ask Teachers that can write a positive letter about student skills, abilities and academic performance in the classroom, or a particular area of study.
  • Students should begin to ask teachers on March 10th

Teacher Letters

  • On Monday, March 10th you may begin to ask teachers for Letters of recommendation
  • Have an in-person conversation with the teacher you would like to write on your behalf.
  • After your conversation, follow up with an e-mail, thanking your teacher for agreeing to write on your behalf.
  • Provide teachers with all materials required. (Your teacher may ask you for a copy of your resume, or to complete the “teacher information form” in Naviance)
  • We will review how to “invite” teachers in Naviance in the fall, you do not need to do that now.

Counselor Letters

  • You do not need to formally ask your counselor for a letter of recommendation.

  • You will need to complete the counselor information form in Naviance.
