Organism Disposal

Every school should have a organism disposal plan. Most schools have a bio barrel which will be picked up in June. Please make sure all organisms in the school have been euthanized and placed in the bin. Organisms cannot go home with students.

Where is your school in this process?

FOSS Refill Kits

Do your teachers understand the refill kit process?

The consumable materials are refurbished every three years. The refill kits that just arrived at your school contain consumable materials for school year 23-24, 24-25, 25-26.

For more information about the refill kits click here

Elementary Science Materials Inventory

The FOSS resources provide the tools necessary to implement the CCRS for Science. With the wealth of resources comes the responsibility to be good stewards. It is imperative that teachers inventory their FOSS kits and ensure that materials are cleaned and returned to the proper drawer prior to departing for summer break. If materials are missing or broken, teachers should contact their school’s AO and/or Supply Tech to replace those items. With each teacher’s support, we will ensure that we are prepared for instruction at the start of each school year.

Should you have any questions, please let me know.

When is the last time the FOSS

kits have been inventoried?

Get parents involved with this process.

Crayfish

We realize this school year’s crayfish did not work well, lots of feedback! ☺ We have a new crayfish vendor for next school year so we don’t have to get the hissing cockroaches!

Big Thank You to Wiesbaden Elementary and Stuttgart Elementary for piloting the new crayfish!

Sense-Making Discussions

Classroom conversation is essential, it addresses important

academic content and is a critical component of the lesson,

including whole class, small group, and pair or partner discussions. Through discussions, teachers and students explore ideas and use evidence to build and critique academic arguments. There is solid research evidence and widespread agreement that academically productive discussion is critical for learning in science.

1. Are your teachers facilitating

sense-making discussion?

2. Would they be interested in

sense-making posters?

Science Assessments: I-Checks

FOSSmap platform will no longer be used. Thinklink will include the assessments (I-checks) in their platform. Hopefully, this will help with the syncing process and there will be less online challenges.

Considering: Next Year

2 I-Checks

per Module

How are your teachers doing with the Europe East Science Expectations of one I-Check per module?
