PROBLEM STATEMENT

YOUR CHALLENGE IS TO LEVERAGE GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGY AND APPLY ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE/MACHINE LEARNING (AI/ML) CAPABILITIES TO MONITOR, DETECT AND QUANTIFY PLASTIC MARINE DEBRIS. SPECIFICALLY, ARE THERE POTENTIAL ADVANTAGES AS WELL AS THE LIMITATIONS OF AI/ML ALGORITHMS TO QUICKLY AND INEXPENSIVELY CLASSIFY PLASTIC POLLUTION AND REPORT/VISUALIZE THE FINDINGS IN A PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE WAY?

OUR APPROACH AND IDEA

FIRST WE HAVE STARTED TO SEARCH ABOUT MARINE DEBRIS. WE HAVE GO THROUGH MANY BLOGS, RESEARCH PAPERS ETC.., WHILE SEARCHING, THE PROBLEM WE HAVE FACED THAT WE HAVE NO PROPER INFORMATION ABOUT MARINE DEBRIS. SO WE DECIDED TO CREATE A WEB APPLICATION WHERE WE HAVE ANALYZED AND VISUALIZED SOME TYPES OF MARINE DEBRIS ALL OVER THE WORLD IN A SINGLE PAGE. SO THAT, GOVERNMENT CAN CONDUCT SOME AWARENESS PROGRAM OR CLEAN THOSE DEBRIS BEFORE ANY THREATS HAPPEN TO THE HEALTH OF COASTAL AREAS, OCEANS, AND WATERWAYS.

NASA’s OPEN DATA PROVIDES SOME FACTS AND KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE PROBLEM STATEMENT. IT PROVIDES DATA FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD NOT FROM SOME SPECIFIC AREA. SO IT SAVES OUR TIME OF SEARCHING DATA.
