STEP

• 11th graders can go to STEP full or part-time
• Full-time students take core classes at STEP too
• Open to any student, but check prerequisites!
• Bussing is provided
• Videos and more info on our registration site
• STEP Registration info included with registration materials

STEP

There are both morning and afternoon sessions at STEP.

• Morning session runs hours 1-2
• Afternoon session runs hours 4-5

You cannot indicate which session or trimester you prefer. You will be scheduled based on availability and what works with your other classes.

Full-time STEP means career classes at STEP, core classes at STEP, and a full schedule (including 3rd hour and Advisory) at STEP.

PSEO

• Students planning on PSEO need to register for full-time Andover classes.
• Do you qualify? Check the website of schools you’re interested in
• Attend the required Parent/Student Info Meeting
• Maximizing High School (linked) - Thursday January 8th, 6 pm - 8 pm
• Apply for PSEO in February-March (after tri 2 grades are posted)
• It is too early to register for PSEO courses
• Students can do PSEO part-time or full-time- can’t leave your classes early

• You may have some courses pre-locked in if they are required for you

Registration Course Numbers

• Use your Course Number sheet to find course numbers
• Transfer the 5-digit numbers to the worksheet
• STEP course numbers are attached to the Andover course numbers
• All numbers can be added to your worksheet
• Pay attention to prerequisites

Math Registration

See “Math Paths” chart page 10 of Registration Guide. Find your 10^th grade math class and go down to the “Next year take” row to see your recommended next step.

If you’re struggling in your current math class you may need to repeat a course instead of moving on to a new course. See your math teacher or Counselor for ideas on what to do next.

Filling in the Worksheet

1. Start with Required classes- the worksheet will guide you through your choices
2. Finish with electives or other courses you’d like to take
3. Provide alternates
4. Reminder: If you select a class as either a 1st choice or an alternate you will not be allowed to later drop the class- plan carefully!

• All students will enter their course requests using StudentVue
• (Hint: Use course numbers instead of titles to search)
• Be sure to know how to log in under the lock and key
• You can only enter using the student log in (not parent log in)

How to Select Classes

Talk to your teachers and counselor with questions and recommendations

Pay attention to Prerequisites- use the Registration Guide to make sure you qualify for the courses you select. (PDF of Registration guide is on the site)

Think about your course load.

Most AP classes are Tri 1 and 2 (and full-year will run all 3 tri’s)

Can you handle the courses you’re asking for?

How has 10^th grade been? Too much? Not enough? Just right?

Know Your Graduation Requirements

English- 4 credits total

• Honors English 9- 1.0 credit
• Honors English 10- 1.0 credit
• English 11 Choices or AP Language & Comp- 1.0 credit
• English 12 Choices or AP Literature & Comp- 1.0 credit

Graduation Requirements

Social Studies- 4 credits total

• Civics 9- .5 and Geography 9- .5
• US History 10 or AP US History- 1.0
• World History 11 or AP World History - 1.0
• Econ 12 or AP Micro Econ- .5 and Gov’t & Politics 12 or AP Gov’t & Politics- .5

• Our graduation requirements
• Plus: Rigor!, Math, Science, World Language
• Continue keeping track of activities/awards/honors/leadership/volunteerism
• Testing: ACT in grade 11 (or SAT) Test Prep
• Visits- 11^th grade a big year to begin visiting colleges. Check Scoir for upcoming visits.

Parting Thoughts

• 10^th and 11^th grade are both very important to transcript- lots of content!
• Start setting good organization, homework, and calendar habits
• Don’t be afraid to try something new
• PSEO qualification is based on GPA. Do well now to be eligible later.
