MHW/Self-Care Tip #1

Self-care means taking time to do things you enjoy. It is vital to do everyday activities that you find relaxing, fun and energizing.

MHW/Self-Care Tip #2

Self-care means taking loving care of YOU. This is essential for your physical, mental, socio-emotional and spiritual health.

Wheel of Holistic Health

MHW/Self-Care Tip #3

Make self-care a priority. There will always be other things to do, but, do not let these interrupt time set aside just for YOU. Your self-care is a priority and should be given the same importance as other responsibilities.

13 of 27

MHW/Self-Care Tip #4

Set specific self-care goals.

It is difficult to accomplish vague goals, such as “I will take more time for self-care”. Instead, try something specific, such as, “I will walk for 30 minutes every evening after having dinner with my family”.

14 of 27

MHW/Self-Care Tip #5

Make self-care a habit. Using self-care just once will not have much positive effect on reducing your stress. Instead, choose activities that you can do often to help maintain your equilibrium and live a well-balanced life.

15 of 27

MHW/Self-Care Tip #6

Set boundaries to protect your self-care. You do not need a major obligation to say “no” to others - your self-care is reason enough. Remind yourself that your needs are as important as anyone else’s.

16 of 27

MHW/Self-Care Tip #7

A few minutes of self-care is better than no self-care. Set an alarm reminding you to take regular breaks, whether it is a simple, quiet 10-minute meditation, an uninterrupted nap or a healthy snack. This “me time” will energize you to function more optimally.

17 of 27

MHW/Self-Care Tip #8

Remember, unhealthy activities do not count as self-care. This can include substance use, over-eating and other unhealthy behaviors which might hide uncomfortable emotions temporarily, but, will cause more problems in the long-term.

18 of 27

MHW/Self-Care Tip #9

Remember, there is only one YOU.

Always maintain your self-care, even when you are feeling great!

TEACHER APPRECIATION PROGRAM (TAP)

  • May Winner #1: Mrs. Denmark-Lawal
  • 1st Grade
  • Nominations: Anonymous
  • “Mrs. Denmark-Lawal engages her classroom (and parents) with passion, intentionality, and love. She focuses as much on the individual student’s wellbeing as she focuses on their academic advancements. Not only has my child gained so much knowledge this year on a variety of topics, she has gained self confidence and blossomed into an impressive critical thinker. Somehow all the work of 1st grade has only increased her love of learning, and that’s in large part due to Mrs. Denmark-Lawal. Every child deserves a teacher like her!”
  • Mrs. Denmark-Lawal will receive a wishlist fund bonus!
