Meet Mrs. Laird
Hello! I’m Mrs. Laird, and I am looking forward to working with all of you in Literacy and social studies.
This is my 29th year at Hubbard
Elementary School, teaching 3rd grade.
I am excited to discover, learn, and
grow with your child this year.

Reading:
We will CKLA, which
is a new reading series this year.
Language:
Integrated with the reading series
Some concepts taught: nouns, verbs, adjectives, subjects, predicates, synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, and contractions.
Phonics & Writing:
Phonics skills we be introduced every few weeks and tested.
Students will be doing various types of writing such as; descriptive, opinion, narrative, and research.
Cursive Handwriting:
Students will begin learning cursive. Our goal is to be able to write all work in cursive by the end of the year.
Social Studies:
Unit 1: Citizenship
Unit 2: Transportation/Communication

Unit 6: Economics
A letter grade will be assigned on the report card.
Math & Science:
Students will switch classes and have Mrs. Barnot and Mrs. Wilson teaching math and Mrs. Barnot and Mrs. Pysher for science.

Progress Reports:
All assigned work is expected to be completed and turned in by the due dates given. Remote work must be done by the student, although parental guidance is encouraged.
You will be able to monitor your child’s grades online through Progress Book.

SNACK:
Since lunch is at 12:15, children are asked to send in a bulk snack each month.
Lunch Money:
Please place your child’s lunch money in an envelope or baggy marked with his/her name and room number each time it is sent to school.
Medicine:
Please send a note to school if your child needs to take any medication. The nurse will administer all medicine. Cough drops must have a note sent to
school with them. They will be kept in the nurse’s office.
The Number System:
Each child is assigned a number that is determined alphabetically. This number will be used to keep materials better organized throughout the classroom. Your child’s coat hook, mailbox, and
textbooks will all have the same
number to encourage a safe and healthy learning environment.
Book Club Orders:
Each month your child will have the opportunity to order from various Scholastic Book Clubs. Please do not send in cash. A check or money order can only be accepted which needs to be payable to
Scholastic Books. You may also
order online using the class
code: LXM6H.
