ODI Updates: Funding

  • $3M USD is very close to being finalised with google.org as part of their Scientific Progress fund.
  • Google.org is the philanthropic arm of Google and operates independently from the core organisation.
  • We are looking to have this funding for core work on Solid matched by other philanthropic donors.
  • We are also seeking funding to support specific applications of Solid, particularly social good applications.
  • If you are aware of appropriate funders contact solid@theodi.org.

Solid Community Group Updates: elf Pavlik

https://www.w3.org/groups/cg/solid/

Principles

  • The mission of the Solid CG is to provide a home for incubation of proposals related to Solid.
  • The CG is not a standards group. It is not the CG's role to determine "what is suitable for Solid."
  • The fact that the Solid CG provides a home for incubation does not mean that the CG endorses any particular proposal, or guarantees that any particular proposal will be subsequently adopted by another group.
  • The Solid CG is an inclusive forum where diversity ideas are shared and debated respectfully (consistent with codes of conduct).
  • Early feedback on proposals should focus on clarifications. Statements of opposition should be reserved for later stages of incubation.

Solid Community Group Updates: elf Pavlik

https://www.w3.org/groups/cg/solid/

Framework for proposals (WIP)

  • New suggestion - simple to be inclusive
  • Requirements - from a common use cases repository
  • Proposal - test suite encouraged
  • Evaluation - a comparison using common requirements
  • Traction - implementation and adoption signals

Strategy

  • Coordinating with other Community Groups.
  • Providing high-quality reports to ongoing and future Working Groups.
