Wider Curriculum

Over the next few weeks the children will be learning about:

  • Plants in Science
  • The geography of China
  • How to make art inspired by the sounds we hear.

English

Our focus book for next half term are:

George’s Marvellous Medicine

In Writing the children will be learning to:

  • Write recounts in the form of a diary
  • Write a set of instructions for how to make a medicine
  • Write their own story opening

Reading

Over this half term, the children will be practising a range of reading strategies. These include:

  • Retrieving information from a text.
  • Making inferences about how a character is feeling.
  • Sequencing events in the order they happen in a text.

Please remember to read 5 times a week and record it in your child’s reading diary.

Maths

This half term, the children will be learning about:

  • 2D and 3D shapes
  • How to solve word problems
  • Spending and saving in financial education

PE

Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school every day. Your child will need the correct P.E kit: black shorts/ tracksuit bottoms, white t-shirt and trainers/plimsolls.

PE is on the following days:

  • Both Foxes & Owls: Monday & Thursday

Home Learning

Reading - Reading diaries are to be handed in every Monday morning. Please read with your child at least five times a week and record it in the reading diary.

The children have usernames and passwords for all of the above websites. Please ask your child’s class teacher if you are having trouble accessing any of these.

Please continue to practise reading and spelling the Year 2 Common Exception Words.

Reminders

  • Please ensure all clothing is labelled.
  • Please ensure that your child has a water bottle in school every day.
  • Please ensure that your child has a weather appropriate coat.
  • Please check your child's bag/Google Classroom daily for letters and other information.
  • If your child has a packed lunch, please ensure that it is a healthy meal - no chocolate or cakes (including donuts).

Assessment

At various points throughout the year, your child will be assessed in order to determine the next steps in their learning. This may take a range of forms including: termly assessment tests, informal quizzes, listening to reading, independent writing and many more.
