Media Type Teen Demographic
Survey
TV Genre
Obvious trend with the comedy genre, with most people commenting ‘because its funny’ or alike. This trend can also be similarly seen in film, with the majority choosing comedy.
Magazine Genre
With magazine, the majority of teens voted for ‘N/A’. This shows that most teens do not read magazines. The companies would therefore not have teenagers as a target audience, based on this survey. However, if the survey had been on a larger scale, im sure the results would of been different. Some people commented that they would ‘rather read a book’ or that they found magazines ‘boring’.
Radio Station
The trend for this question was ‘Radio 1’ and ‘KISS’. This shows that the majority of the class listen to pop music on the radio, however I believe that most people listen to their own choice of music on the internet or on their phones etc. Most people commented ‘good, up to date music’ or likewise.
Evaluative Thinking
I have learnt that conducting research requires a lot of cooperation from the subjects. They must complete all the questions and add extra detail in order for the results to be accurate. I have also learnt that without a larger range of people to survey, the results can be quite biased and trends can be quite hard to spot on such a small scale. With secondary research, the drawbacks could be that peoples opinions could not be entirely reliable and theres a possibility that this could affect results. If I did this task again I would like to have more time to plan the questions out logistically and gather a wider range of results. I would like to have the ability to spot trends more easily and be closer to the ‘true value’ of results.
Research is a very useful tool that can help an enterprise reach their target audience more easily and alter media to match the audiences profile.
