Subject Snapshots: A summary of what we expect our students to know and do in a unit.
Unit Summary: Students produce a portfolio of work- presented either as a sketchbook or as work on boards- taking inspiration from other artists/movements, exploring a range of materials and processes to come to their own independent final outcomes.
Knowledge (Curriculum content) | Students begin with the title Portraiture but are encouraged to develop their research towards their own interests, focussing on different artists, art movements and visual communication. Through a series of class workshops/lessons based around the key processes- drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking - students are able to form an exciting portfolio. By the end of Y10 students should have a large proportion of their coursework complete with the first term of Y11- and the mock PPE- used for developing their final outcomes. Big Idea and Future You lessons regularly form part of the lessons and are usually connected to the processes/techniques/artists that students will be presented with. (For example Make-Up Artist would tie in with lessons on facial proportion drawing lessons)
Academic Literacy | Students complete a ‘Learning Journey’ for their coursework. This a written/visual journey of the project. Should contain subject specific language, key words and critical analysis of artists/movements. (NB: For OCR it is NOT a requirement to annotate work with writing. The journey could be expressed in a visual way only).
