Background

I am a BSc first year student at Tri Chandra Multiple Campus, Ghantaghar Kathmandu Nepal.
I grew up in jhapa district of Nepal and I currently live in Maitidevi, Kathmandu.
I am interested in tech and social impact programs.

Problem Statement

Who uses technology tools in a family?
How do they use these tools?
Do they know about the social sites that lead to digital fraud?
Have they been scammed or come across any incident of digital scam?

Relevance

If the scamming is not properly identified as a problem then it will be difficult to find solution. This may lead to the various non considerable consequences.

Context

There is an increase in the use of technological products and consumption of social media. However, not everyone is fully aware of the dangers and fraud that comes with it. In my project, I want to know “Who and How are people being scammed when using technological tools?”

Challenge 1

Technical Issues

Time management:

It was difficult for me to manage time for the program due to my exams regularly.

Digital fluency:

Due to increasing fraud and scam it was difficult to convince people to fill the form.I promise them that it is not such fraud and I’ll be responsible if any of their identity and information was shared.

Challenge 2

Data collection

Collecting authentic datas:

Data collection was a bit lengthy and difficult process through out the project. Finally I managed it to collect thoroughly with in my friends circle of different parts of the country.

Covid 19 regulations:

Due to covid-19 regulation, I have to implement my project Online.

Challenge 3

Permission to conduct programs.

In order to organise a community program, I tried to get permission from concerned authorities. However, I do not get any kinds of information from Police and Cyber bureau due to their regulations and rules. So, I experience some hurdles.

Approach

Questionnaires to help people learn about online fraud

I conduct my project using online tools.
While doing online program I was able to collect data from different places throughout the country of different gender and age group.
I was able able to connect with people from different backgrounds and family.

Demographics of my survey respondents

Out of total respondents majority of them were male.

Most of the respondents were aged between 17-22.

All most all of the respondents were Students and some were others(Doctor,Teacher and Youtuber).

Impact 1

57% of the participants were male and 43% of them were female. 40% of male along with 35% of females have received the scam messages in total.

What I learned?

I learned more about the consequences and effects of digital scamming and violence.
These datas helped me to be prepared for further occurring digital misuses.
Ways to Implement my ideas to perform projects.
Strengthen in Analysing Capacity.
Can make informed decisions in an instant.
To tackle challenges to grab opportunities.

If I had more time, I would try to do more social impact programmes in the coming future.

I will organize a program by physical medium.
