Eligibility…

  • To be be eligible at the start and middle of the season.
  • 1st Quarter and 1st Semester grades determine eligibility for Winter Sports.
  • CNUSD Minimum Requirements determined by District & CIF Policy,
    • Maintain at least a 2.0 G.P.A.
    • No more than 1 Unsatisfactory Mark (U) for behavior.

  • Athletics will try to schedule buses for weekday events when students have to leave during the school day.
  • No busses will be scheduled on non-school days.

Health and Safety

The certified athletic trainer (AT), with the consultation and direction of physicians, is an integral part of the health care system associated with physical activity and sports. The AT at Norco High School has full responsibility for the operational procedures of the athletic training room. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Injury Prevention

2. Evaluation, assessment & clinical diagnosis

3. Immediate/Acute care

4. Treatment, rehabilitation, and recognition

5. Organization and administration

6. Professional development

Reasons why your athlete should come consult with the Athletic Trainer

  • Acute/Chronic/lingering pains
    • Want to solve the problem, before it becomes an injury
  • Injury
    • Treatment, rehabilitation plan, return to play protocols
    • Musculoskeletal injuries, direct blow/contusions, concussions, etc.
  • Athletic performance
    • Diet & nutrition
    • Discrepancies in normal body function (flexibility, range of motion, mobility, etc.)
    • Reached a “plateau” and would like to overcome the barrier
  • Injury Prevention
    • Previous injuries that cause lingering issues or feelings of instability

Health and Safety…Concussion Protocol

*CIF Bylaw 503.H: “…If a licensed health care provider, trainer in education and management of concussion determines that the athlete sustained a concussion or a head injury, the athlete is required to complete a graduated return to play protocol of no less than (7) full days from the time of diagnosis under the supervision of a licensed health care provider…”

Medical Clearance:

Per CIF bylaw 503 clearance to participate only valid if completed by a licensed healthcare practitioner, defined as a medical doctor or doctor of osteopathy (MD or DO only). No other healthcare practitioner may clear an athlete for participation.

Important Information

  • Safety is ALWAYS the number #1 priority
    • Insure to not withhold information from myself or coaches when regarding the health status of your student-athlete.
  • If your student-athlete has an injury this season:
    • If referred out to other healthcare professionals (MD, DO, DC, PT, ER, Urgent Care), send them to campus with 2-copies of each form for my records & for the coaches.
    • I will create a rehabilitation plan specifically designed to return the athlete back into competition SAFELY while also within a timely manner
  • Healthcare Hierarchy
    • MD/DO > Athletics Faculty (Athletic Trainer, Athletic Director, Coach, PT)
    • Norco High School athletics WILL NOT attempt to overrule the recommendation of a MD/DO
