Questions

  1. Why do the disciples think the man is blind? Are they correct?

  • Once more Jesus calls Himself the “light of the world.” Generally speaking, what possible things happen to those who were in darkness (as John said we all start) that are then exposed to the light?

  • What does Jesus do to heal the blind man? Why do you think He did it this way?

Questions (continued)

  1. Read Isaiah 8:6; Genesis 49:10 (KJV or NKJV). Jesus’s healing takes place at “the Pool of Siloam,” a transliteration of the Hebrew word “shiloah,” which means “Sent.” What connections can we draw from the Old Testament to this miracle?

Questions

  • To whom does the crowd take the healed man? What might this suggest?

  • The crowd divides in its opinion on Jesus. What are the two positions? Who has the better argument?

  • To whom does the healed man credit his healing? How does this (ironically) contrast with his parents?

  • What’s ironic about the Pharisees’ (rather ad hominem) response to the blind man in verse 34? See also verse 19.
