REMINDER - By 2/21/24 LSCs Must Schedule

Candidate Forums & Certification of Elections

  • By 2/21/24- All LSCs should schedule meeting for the candidate forum between March 11, 2024 - March 19, 2024
    • If the LSC does not schedule by 2/21/24 date the school administration will
    • On 2/22/24, the School Administration will schedule (and later host) the candidate forum, if the LSC has not done so
    • NOTE: The LSC does NOT schedule forum for Student/Staff (Admin does)

  • By 2/21/24- All LSCs should schedule the meeting to certify LSC Election results between
    • April 11th and April 18, 2024, for elementary schools
    • April 12th and April 18, 2024, for high schools.

Education Facilities Master Plan (EFMP)

Community Roundtable Discussions

Through February 2024, CPS is hosting 16 different neighborhood-specific roundtable discussions across the city regarding our school facilities. Families and staff will be able to collaborate and share their thoughts on how the District should prioritize repairs, construction projects, and overall investments in our school buildings. Roundtables will offer live Spanish and ASL translation. REGISTER at least 48 hours before the start of a session.

District Policies - Public Comment Period Open

The Chicago Public Schools Board of Education encourages public participation on proposed changes to policies and Board Rules that are posted for public comment.

At their December 14 meeting, the Board authorized the public comment process for February 2024 Policies/Rules. All comments will be posted publicly, pending a review to ensure no defamatory statements; vulgar or threatening language; or confidential information about students, employees, or others.

LSCAB Board Members Host Regional VIRTUAL Listening Tours

  1. LISTENING TOUR AS PART OF A STAND ALONE EVENT. This sessions will be separately scheduled sessions on the date/time each LSCAB Member is available. The first listening tour sessions will be 30 minutes or 45 minutes. The listening tour session will be via Zoom and divided into SEVEN SEPARATE SESSIONS so as not to violate OMA. No more than two members per region can participate in the session. Six sessions - one for each region and one session dedicated strictly for student LSC members.

Resolution on LSC Budget/CIWP Approvals

Follow-up from May 2023 Meeting

RESOLUTION TITLE: Extension of Time for Local School Council (LSC) Review and Approval of School Budget and Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP)

KEY POINTS

  • This extension and timely provision of documents will enable LSC members to thoroughly examine the proposed budget and continuous improvement work plan, allowing them to prepare insightful questions and contribute meaningfully to the decision-making process.
  • As district plans for the release of Budgets and LSC Review of CIWPs, the LSCAB requests that the district take into consideration building into that timeline more time for LSCs to review the Budget and CIWP before vote
    • The school principal must share the CIWP and Budget X# of weeks with the LSC before the approval deadline.
