Major Depressive Disorder vs Dysthymia

  • MDD has severe symptoms, but the symptoms only persist for around two weeks
  • Dysthymia has much more mild symptoms, but they persist for up to 2-3 years

Bipolar Disorder

  • Manic Episodes: Mania is characterized by lower rationality, irritability, irrational spending, intense energy, and an overall separation from reality
  • Depressive episodes display the same symptoms as MDD
  • People with Bipolar disorder experience periods of both Manic and Depressive disorder
