English 10 Course description

The English Language Arts Common Core State Standards emphasize reading, writing, note-taking, speaking, critical thinking, and listening skills. This class will provide students with the opportunity to acquire such knowledge and skills that will be transferable to many different academic and real-world settings. To accomplish these goals, students will need time, dedication, support, and resources—all of which can be found in this class.

Learning Routines

  • Weekly Powerpoints
    • Every week I will host a powerpoint that students can follow and rely on as we proceed through our lessons. 10th graders will get access to their powerpoints by Monday afternoon, and can refer back to it as the week progresses to review notes, homework, and other important information.
    • The powerpoint includes needed materials, due dates, and any important links.

My planned interventions

What are your steps for re-engagement and behavior correction?

In the event that students are struggling with displaying PRIDE in the classroom, I try to bring them aside and speak with them to get a better understanding of any personal issues that might be going on.

If issues persist after we had our talk, I begin writing them up and asking that they serve additional time in my classroom.

Should problems continue to arise, I will reach out to parents, preferably by phone. Phone calls will usually take place before 8:30am, or during my conference (Period 3: Tues-Thurs from 10:28-12:11) Otherwise, I may send you an email asking for your input, support and any suggestions.

Tips for success

What can the student be doing to ensure their success?

  • Students should do their absolute best to complete their work in a timely manner, to the best of their ability. I do everything in my power to provide a equitable and positive learning experience. For this to happen, students need to communicate. I can give extensions, provide extra support and discuss lessons with students, but they need to email or speak with me and let me know where they’re struggling.

What can the parent be doing to ensure their success?

  • Not including journals, Students will have at least one homework assignment a week. Please check with your child, Aeries, and their google classroom to see whether they completed their weekly assignment(s).
  • If you’d like to get connected to your child’s google classroom account, please email me.
