What is the Collaborative Nursing Education Continuum Model (CNECM)?

  • The CNECM is an early start to Upper Division Nursing coursework toward the BSN.
  • Current ADN students enrolled at CNECM partners apply while in ADN programs

Who is eligible for admission to the CNECM Program?

  • Current ADN students enrolled at CNECM partner community colleges.
  • CNECM partners’ ADN programs are: Santa Rosa Junior College, College of Marin, Napa Valley College, Solano Community College, and Mendocino College. 
  • Applicants must be currently in good standing in their respective ADN program.

  1. Apply to SSU Nursing Program

> In Spring 2026 to gain admission to the program - to start Summer 2026. (NursingCAS)

  • Apply to Sonoma State University

> In Fall 2026 to begin coursework full time in Fall 2027(CalState Apply)

  • Start the 1st Summer after admitted.
  • Finish with BSN one year after ADN graduation.

  • Demographic info
    • Lower Division GE and Preq Checklist consult your community college counselor (don’t guess). Use Roadmap for your CC.
    • Questions: 4 short answer prompts, answer thoughtfully.
    • Transcripts to NursingCAS: Include Fall 2025

SSU Nursing Admission Criteria for CNECM Program

Criteria #1 �Preference for admission to the program will be given to applicants currently enrolled in an ADN within service area community colleges � 

Criteria #2�Cumulative 2.0 GPA

Criteria #3�Completion of statistics (SSU Math 165, or equivalent) with a C or better by matriculation� 

Criteria #4�Complete an accurate Lower Division GE and Preq Checklist� �Criteria #5�Current unencumbered California licensure as a Registered Nurse or anticipated graduation from a California ADN program and NCLEX eligibility prior to or during matriculation to SSU Post-Licensure BSN program� 

Criteria #6Human anatomy and physiology within the past 10 years or documented direct patient care nursing experience (including clinical course) within the past two years. Waived if currently in an ADN program.

Are the classes online?

  • All courses are online. Exceptions include:
    • Summer #1 first day of class, and 2 synchronous zoom session
    • Practicum of Public Health course
    • Mandatory on-campus sessions twice during each semester.�
  • NURS 412 Practicum
    • Meets equivalent to one day a week at the agency for the semester.
    • Students are in clinical agencies 8am-5pm, Monday - Friday
    • Specific schedules may vary depending on assigned agency.
    • Practicum sites are within the University’s service area of Sonoma, Napa, Solano, Marin, or Lake counties.

Is there a part-time CNECM option?

  • No. Students must enroll in all the nursing courses listed in the CNECM Academic Program Plan
  • The two summer courses are 4 units each
  • Fall and spring semesters are 11 units each and part time is not an option.

  • If a student withdraws from any required major course for any reason, they are discontinued from the CNECM program and must petition to return during the next admission cycle.

  • Summer class: June 1st, (on campus 9am-1pm) - July
  • Check the SSU Nursing Home page: frequently for CNECM information dates and announcements

Can I work while in the CNECM program?

  • Working during summer terms
    • When you are taking a 4 unit course work is possible.
    • A 4 unit course over 7 weeks requires approx 18 hours per week minimum study time
  • The 11 unit course load during Fall and Spring
    • Is equivalent to a full time job. Most students find working part time challenging but manageable.
  • Successful graduates are highly motivated, self-directed and are able to balance their work-life-school responsibilities.
  • Support from family, friends and employers is very helpful

��Admission to CNECM Program ��

  • Students who are accepted will receive their Admission email notification within 3 weeks of application close
  • Some students may receive an “alternate” admission letter, receive a waitlist number and be notified if a space becomes available
  • CNECM  students will register in late May for the Summer term starting in June
  • Required to attend April or May program orientation: Online (TBD)
  • Plan to attend Nursing 312 on-campus orientation in the summer. The remainder of the course will be online with 2 scheduled zoom sessions.
