In the section titled “Supportive Work Environment and Emotional Wellness Breaks,” the manual clearly states:

“Staff may request a short and immediate break when they feel temporarily unable to perform their duties due to emotional stress or other personal needs.”

This directly addresses the NAEYC requirement by:

  • Acknowledging that early childhood work can be emotionally demanding.
  • Providing explicit permission for staff to step away briefly when they are overwhelmed or emotionally unwell.
  • Promoting staff well-being and maintaining a safe, responsive work environment.
