CONTEXT, OUR GOAL, AND STRATEGY

WHY FOSSIL FUEL SUBSIDIES?

Congress is aiming to pass a massive infrastructure deal with major climate provisions this fall. The massive budget reconciliation bill is being written right now and this multi trillion dollar legislation has the potential to kickstart a legitimate transition away from fossil fuels.

CONTEXT & OUR GOAL

7

  • Already this summer, we’ve witnessed oceans on fire and record-breaking heat waves. With just a decade left before we hit the point of no return, we need our elected leaders to listen to us, not fossil fuel lobbyists, when deciding the future of our climate.
  • We have a key opportunity this summer to pressure our representatives to make sure that they say NO to fossil fuels and YES to a green new deal.
  • Congress is coming home for August recess, meaning that this is our moment to show how important climate action is for their constituents. This means that our demands need to be top priority for them.

WHAT IS OUR STRATEGY TO WIN?

8

  • We will build pressure throughout the summer, leading to an in-person petition delivery and rally at your representative’s office while they are back in their home state during August recess.

  • During Greenpeace’s summer to Fight for our Climate, you will directly pressure your member of congress to make sure that Fossil Fuel subsidies are eliminated in the infrastructure deal. Every one of us has power we can leverage with our representatives to make sure they say no to fossil fuels and yes to a green new deal.
