Instructions from WJEC

There will be a sentence at the beginning in Welsh. This is the 'situation' and explains the theme of the role play. Don't worry too much about the details. The most important thing is the theme and the part that tells you who will speak first (usually your teacher, but not always).

There are five bullet points in each role play. Be sure to respond with a full sentence to each.

When you see Answer the question you will have to respond to a question you are not prepared for. In your preparation time, try to think of the kind of thing that might be asked of you.

You will also have to ask a question. This could be a fairly simple question – e.g. Fumes-tu?

In the Foundation Tier, one of the prompts will be in a different tense (usually the past). Listen for clues like yesterday, last year, last weekend. For the Higher Tier, there will be two prompts in a different tense. Listen for clues to prompt you to use the future or conditional – e.g. tomorrow, next week, in the future.

Unlike other parts of the speaking exam, you won't get extra marks for adding further details, opinions and so on. In the role play, you only need to give the information the bullet points ask for and nothing else.
