CTE Pathways

What is CTE?

  • The Career Technical Education (CTE) program in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District offers elective courses in a sequential CTE pathway, within an industry sector that incorporates science, math, English Language Arts (ELA), and CTE common core standards

  • CTE Programs are personalized, hands-on, and lets students explore different career fields!

What is ROP?

Hands on classes that get you more involved.

Who can take ROP classes ?

Most classes available to grades 9-12.

  • Internship Classes - Must be 16
  • Some Classes limited to age/grade

Why take an ROP class?

  • Experiment in different career industries.
  • Earn grades and credit towards graduation.
  • UC and CSU approved courses.
  • Prepare for workforce .
  • Earn certificates and recognition.

Early College Credit Options

Steps:

  • See Counselor and complete the Community College Dual Enrollment/Special Part Time Student Form (provided by college)
  • Apply to Community College
  • Submit Dual Enrollment/Special Part Time Form to Community College
  • Register for Classes

  • AP Courses/Exams (Score of 3 or higher)
  • Dual Enrollment Coastline College Courses
    • OCC, GWC, IVC & CCC
    • Must be a course not offered at CdM
    • See Counselor for details and steps

NMUSD Awards & Recognition

  • State Seal of Biliteracy

1) Complete all English classes with a minimum GPA of 2.0.

2) Earn a level a “proficient” or higher SBAC score in English language arts

3) And display proficiency in one or more languages, other than English, demonstrated through one of the following methods:

  • Pass a world language Advanced Placement (AP) examination with a score of 3 or higher
  • Completed a four-year course of study in a world language, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • NMUSD Seal of Excellence

Scored 3 or higher on 3 AP Exams & completed and passed at least 2 college courses.

CDMHS Athletics

  • Athletic Clearance must be complete to participate in all sports
  • Must maintain a 2.0 GPA, have no more than 1 U in citizenship, and pass at least 4 classes. www. AthleticClearance.com

CLEARANCE PROCESS

  • Download a “Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation and Exam Form” from the Athletic Website or Athletic Clearance (www. AthleticClearance.com)
  • Complete a Pre-Participation Exam and Clearance with medical doctor.
  • Go to www. AthleticClearance.com-Create/Login to an account, complete the registration, and upload physical and proof of insurance. 2023-24 Athletic Clearance Registration opens May 1st
  • Upload Confirmation/Consent Page with Parent/Student signature to Athletic Clearance.

Teachers are available during Late Start Mondays from 8:45-9:35 to help their students.

Monday Intervention

Built into the CdM Bell Schedule

Interested students can sign up in the counseling department to be matched with a NHS tutor.

In SchooLinks students should check their “dashboard” to see what remaining tasks they may need to complete. Students completed “Would You Rather” and “Favoriting Careers” during our recent presentations.
