Please read the Essential Question in your RWC on page 32. Discuss the photograph of the children lining up at a lemonade stand. How do we give and take the things we need?

  • People meet their needs in different ways.
  • We can use money to buy things we need.
  • We can also try to barter (trade) to get the things we need.

Over the next two weeks, we will be reading two fairy tales. The first one we will be focusing on is in our RWC, pages 34-37. As you read, this story may remind you of another fairy tale that is very familiar. Remember, a fairy tale:

  • frequently includes magical characters and events
  • setting is often described as “long ago” or “far away”
  • Usually has a message and a happy ending

***Please read “Juanita and the Beanstalk” on pages 33-37 in your RWC. You will need to make sure to complete your notes. (They will be useful as we continue our study.)

Essential Question: How do we get what we need?
