Matter:�Solid�Liquid�Gas
1. Everything in the universe is either matter or energy.
2. Anything that you can (could) touch is made of atoms.�This is matter.
Everything else is energy.
3. Matter exists in four states: solid, liquid, gas, and plasma.
4. Solids have a definite shape and volume of their own.
5. 2 types of solids:�crystalline [atoms in a regular pattern] and�amorphous [atoms NOT in a pattern].�
6. Liquids have a definite volume, but their shape can change.
7. Volume = length x width x height
1. Gases change both shape and volume.
2. Pressure: The force exerted on an area. e.g. Inflated balloon: The internal pressure pushes the sides outward.
