First aid

  • Helps a casualty to recover quickly.
  • Could save a person’s life.
  • Usually given for minor illnesses or injuries.
  • Sometimes given for more serious illness or injury.

The emergency help given to a sick or injured person until they receive full medical treatment.

  • Always ask the injured person for permission to perform first aid (where possible).
  • If you give first aid you should try to make sure that your actions will not cause further harm to the patient.
  • New UAE law states that you will not be punished if you want to give first aid in an emergency situation and the person gets harmed as a result. (The good Samaritan law)

How to become certified

  • There are many different types of first aid training, from basic to advanced levels.
  • Accredited means the training is a high enough standard to be recognised internationally.

  • If there was a first aid incident in your community, you would be prepared to help.

  • Skills learned at a first aid course will be useful for your whole life.

  • Usually certifications must be renewed yearly but the skills needed to pass do not change.
