High School- grades 9-12 (Homeschool Program only)

  • Weekly synchronous instruction opportunity
    • This must be provided by any credentialed teacher at Heartwood
    • Sessions can be 1 on 1, small group or classroom setting
    • Sessions can be conducted over the phone, via a zoom or onsite
    • This can be focused work on any subject listed on their master agreement
    • There is no minimum or maximum time for each session
    • They will not be graded however it is a good opportunity to obtain a worthy work sample
  • CSTs will discuss with the parent/guardian during the Learning Period (LP) meetings the goals for the upcoming LP and they will focus on supporting those goals during these weekly instructions

Grades 4-8 (Homeschool and Bothin programs)

  • Daily live interaction can happen with any Heartwood employee, this will be provided in the form of
    • Daily interaction does not need to involve your assigned CST, it can be achieved with any Heartwood CST or employee
    • Field trips, onsite and virtual classes, tutoring and social clubs
    • There is not a minimum or maximum time required for this but attendance will be taken daily by all Heartwood employees and teachers at all events
    • This is an opportunity available to your student
  • Weekly synchronous instruction opportunity can be provided by any credentialed Heartwood teacher
    • Our goal is provide 15-20 minutes of instruction per week unless onsite
    • Parent/guardian discuss with the CST a subject that they would like to focus on in their weekly meetings offering support to the parent. Math for example, and the CST focuses on supporting them on their math journey
    • Weekly nature journaling tasks with specific core subject instruction

Grades TK-3rd (Homeschool and Bothin program)

  • Daily synchronous instruction with any credentialed teacher at Heartwood
    • Can be provided in person, virtually or over the phone
    • Can be provided 1 on 1, in a small group, or in a classroom setting (virtually or onsite)
    • There is not a specific time frame for how long the daily synchronous instruction must be. Our goal is provide 15-20 minutes of daily instruction
  • As an ISP we are required to offer this opportunity daily however it is up to you to attend
  • If you would like this opportunity for your child you need to communicate with your assigned CST
  • It is suggested that a minimum of 1 session be attended per day

Minimum Homeschool Program Requirements for students TK-8th

  • Submit attendance, 1 work sample and PE log using the online form during each LP reporting period (about every 20 days)
  • Meet with your assigned CST either in-person (abiding by County COVID Guidelines) or virtually
    • Students in TK-2nd grade are encouraged to participate in as much of the meeting as possible
    • You will discuss with your CST academic progress, lessons plans for the upcoming LP, accomplishments of the past LP

Minimum Homeschool Program Requirements for high school

  • Students must submit 1 work sample per course listed on the master agreement, every learning period using the online form
  • Students must participate in an LP meeting either virtually or in-person (abiding by County COVID Guidelines) with their CST to discuss
    • Academic progress
    • Plans for the upcoming LP
    • Accomplishments during the past LP

Attendance policy updates per SB130 and SB167

School employees will now:

  • Take attendance at every virtual or onsite class and club session
  • Log who attends tutoring sessions
  • Log who attends field trips (virtual and in person)

This process will help us comply with SB130 and SB167

This is different from the Bothin Participation policy.

Tiered Reengagement

What does SB 167 now specifically state:

(1) Verification of current contact information for each enrolled pupil.

(2) Notification to parents or guardians of lack of participation within one school day of the recording of a non-attendance day or lack of participation.

(3) A plan for outreach from the school to determine pupil needs, including connection with health and social services as necessary.

(4) A clear standard for requiring a pupil-parent-educator conference to review a pupil’s written agreement, and reconsider the independent study program’s impact on the pupil’s achievement and well-being, consistent with the policies adopted pursuant to paragraph (4) of subdivision (g).

How will Heartwood comply with tiered reengagement?

(1) Verification of current contact information for each enrolled pupil.

  • A Google Form will go out explaining that we are looking for confirmation of contact information and we will request that we have specific email and phone numbers to comply with item 2 below

(2) Notification to parents or guardians of lack of participation within one school day of the recording of a non-attendance day or lack of participation.

  • Parents/guardians with students in grades TK-3rd will get daily notifications via email if their child does not attend the available opportunities
  • Parents/guardians with students in grades 4-8 will get daily notifications via email if their child does not attend the available live interaction or synchronous instruction opportunities
  • Parents/guardians with students in grades 9-12 will get weekly notifications if their child does not attend the weekly synchronous instruction opportunities available to them

(3) A plan for outreach from the school to determine pupil needs, including connection with health and social services as necessary.

(4) A clear standard for requiring a pupil-parent-educator conference to review a pupil’s written agreement, and reconsider the independent study program’s impact on the pupil’s achievement and well-being, consistent with the policies adopted pursuant to paragraph (4) of subdivision (g).

  • For items 3 and 4 above, we will follow our existing Truancy Policy and comply with those measures for any student or family that does not comply with our Learning Period Requirements
