National Standards Addressed

Healthy Relationships

Describe characteristics of healthy and unhealthy romantic and/or sexual relationships (i.e. media, consent, respect, boundaries, and available resources)

Personal Safety

*Access valid resources and advocate for safe environments that encourage respect.

*Analyze the laws related to bullying, sexual harassment, abuse, assault, rape and dating violence.

*Explain why using tricks, threats or coercion in relationships is wrong.

Puberty and Adolescent Development

*Analyze how brain development impacts cognitive, social, and emotional changes.

*Apply a decision-making model to various situation relating to sexual health.

Identity

*Differentiate between biological sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity and expression.

*Advocate for school policies and programs that promote dignity and respect for all.

Pregnancy and Reproduction

*Access medically accurate information and a decision making model about contraceptive methods, including abstinence and condoms.

*Identify the laws related to reproductive and sexual health care (i.e. contraception, pregnancy options, parenting, and adoption, and abortion)

Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV

*Evaluate the effectiveness of abstinence, condoms and other safer sex methods in preventing the spread of STI’s.

*Develop a plan to eliminate or reduce risk for STI’s including the steps in using a condom correctly.

*Demonstrate skills to communicate with a partner about STI prevention and testing.

Health and Human Sexuality Lessons

The standards listed to the right were adopted by the school board in 2013. Each of the standards will be addressed by the classroom teacher in collaboration with several community organizations in order to provide authentic resources assess additional connections within the community.

Sexual Assault and Care Center

The Care Center will teach one 90 minute lesson on block days and will address many of the objectives listed.

Willow Domestic Violence

Willow will teach two 90 minute lessons on block days and will address many of the objectives related to relationships, safety, and Identify.

1) Understand the concepts of of commercial sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

(2) Understand how different vulnerabilities can lead to human trafficking

(3) Provide examples of healthy relationships and demonstrate how unhealthy relationships can sometimes make youth vulnerable targets to human trafficking  and exploitation.

Let’s Talk

Let’s Talk will teach two 90 minute lessons on block days and will address many of the objectives listed.
