Sampling Distributions
Drag and Drop
On the following slides, drag each box to its appropriate location.
The boxes are located on the side of the slides.
Part 1
a number that describes some characteristic of a sample
a number that describes some characteristic of the population
the proportion of all 13- to 17-year-olds with access to a smartphone
the sample proportion with access to a smartphone
the proportion of the sample who were unemployed
true proportion of the U. S. population who are unemployed
the true range of gas prices at all gasoline stations in the city
the range of prices in the sample of 10 gas stations
Part 2
Free Response
On the next few slides, complete the tasks and type in your answers to the textbox provided. You will be required to turn in your work.
1. Suppose that 70% of all college women have been on a diet within the past 12 months. A sample survey will interview an SRS of 267 college women. Let p-hat be the proportion of women in the sample who have been on a diet within the past 12 months.
(a) Describe the shape, center, and variability of the sampling distribution of p-hat.
(b) Find the probability that 75% or more of the women in a random sample of size 267 have been on a diet.
2. The engines made by Ford for speed boats had an average power of 220 horsepower (HP) and standard deviation of 15 HP. Assume the distribution is normal.
A potential buyer intends to take a sample of four engines and will not place an order if the sample mean is less than 215 HP. What is the probability that the buyer will not place an order?
3. The fundraising site Kickstarter regularly tracks the success rate of projects that seek funding on its site. Recently, the percentage of projects that were successfully funded was 37.5%. You will select a random sample of 50 Kickstarter projects. Let p-hat be the proportion of projects in the sample that were successfully funded.
(a) Describe the shape, center, and variability of the sampling distribution of p-hat.
(b) What is the probability that less than 30% of the projects were successfully funded?
Part 3
The following slide has the answers to the 10 tasks you will be asked to complete in this assignment. Once you have completed a task, cut the answer from the next slide and paste it in the appropriate location for that task.
