Old belief: Earth was the center of the universe and everything else orbited around Earth.

Correct belief: The sun is the center of our solar system and the planets revolve around the sun.

Curious Conversations

  • Hey, do you remember how many planets are in our solar system?
  • Which one’s the biggest planet again? And what about the smallest?
  • Isn’t there only one planet where we know life exists? Do you remember which one that is?
  • The first few planets are called terrestrial planets—do you know why they get that name?
  • And what about the last four? Why are they called gas giants?
  • Do you know what makes Uranus so different from the other planets?
  • Some people talk about the center of the universe—what do you think that means, or is there even one?"

Planets all rotate on their own axis, and all planets also revolve around the sun on their own orbital path. Venus rotates backwards and Uranus rotates on its side!
