365 Days a Year

Inappropriate use of Internet/Social Media/Cyber Image Policy

Presence at Inappropriate Setting/Environment

Responsibilities: Responsibilities to You:  The most important of these responsibilities is to broaden and develop strength of character.  You owe it to yourself to derive the greatest benefit from your high school experiences. To live a healthy lifestyle and to respect your health both physically and mentally at all times. A. In the classroom, an athlete: Must realize that he/she is a student first, an athlete second. The student-athlete must give time and energy to classroom studies to ensure good and acceptable grades that meet the BDMHS academic eligibility standards. Must maintain a satisfactory citizenship and behavior record by giving respectful attention to classroom activities and by treating teachers, administrators, and fellow students with respect. Tardiness, horseplay, and unnecessary talking are unacceptable behavior habits that, if uncorrected by the student-athlete, may result in suspension from the athletic program. B. On Campus, an Athlete: Must adhere to the district dress and grooming policy 5511. You are a leader and you have only one chance to make a good impression. Will refrain from fighting, scuffling, horseplay, and juvenile behavior in and around the school building. C. During the athletic season/period: notify the coach if he/she needs to miss a game or practice session that is scheduled. Absences from athletic practices should be handled according to school guidelines and team rules. Missed practices will also be required to be made up. Any absence should be made up before an athlete participates in the first quarter/half of a contest. Be on the field, court, weight room, or other designated area dressed and ready to practice when the tardy bell rings or when designated by the coach. Tardiness to our class period is inexcusable as it is to any other class. Maintain neat and clean locker space. Be proud of your dressing area and keep it neat. Lock all personal belongings in your locker. The school is not responsible for misplaced, lost, stolen, or damaged personal property or textbooks.

    • Expectations the coaches have for their child and all team members.
    • Location and times of all practices.
    • Team requirements, fees, special equipment, game dress, off-season opportunities.
    • The policy dealing with excused and unexcused absences. (What will be the consequences for missing a game/practice because of vacation?)
  • Expectations/Communications Coaches Should Expect From the Athlete and Parent/Guardian:
    • Notification of any schedule conflicts that may occur, well in advance of the season (vacations).
    • Special concerns regarding coaching expectations (practice requirements).
    • Support for the BDMHS Activities Code of Conduct and all team rules.
    • If the athlete has a concern, the parents should encourage their son/daughter to speak with the coach or coaching staff.

PARENT/GUARDIAN/ATHLETE/COACH EXPECTATIONS Cont’d.

  • Appropriate Concerns Athlete/Parent May Address with the Coaching Staff:
    • The Treatment of the athlete mentally and physically.
    • Ways to help the athlete improve his/her performance and skill level.
    • Concerns about the athletes’ behavior in school/practices/games.
  • Areas That Are Not Appropriate For Parents to Discuss with Coaches:
    • An individual’s playing time.
    • Team strategy.
    • Play selections.
    • The make-up of the team and the decision as to who plays on a particular team.
    • Other members of the team, other parents and other coaches.

COMMUNICATION

  • The Proper Method to Address a Concern:
    • (Step 1) The athlete speaks with the coach. (It is suggested the coaching staff be involved/present when this conference takes place.
    • (Step 2) The parent/guardian asks for a conference with the coach. (If the coach cannot be reached, the parent should contact the Athletic Director and he will arrange for the coach to contact the parent/guardian.
    • (Step 3) If the conference between the parent-guardian/athlete does not resolve the concern, there will be a meeting set up by the Athletic Director. The AD will moderate the conference.
    • The conference will deal with the specific issues that the parent-guardian/athlete has. Both parties will be allowed to speak in an uninterrupted manner. The conference will be in a non-threatening environment.
