Conditions: You are dispatched to a reported residential structure fire. Time of alarm is 0245 hours. While en-route,

the dispatcher advises you that the caller reports a strong

smell of smoke in the residence. Upon arrival, you see

fire on floor 1 of a 2-story single-family dwelling of wood-frame

construction. And you see a victim in a 2nd floor window.

Primary Phase Strategies – In order of importance:

Tactical Assignments – In order of priority (Sample), assign teams to:

  • Rescue the known victim on floor 2
  • Provide two-out rapid intervention capability
  • Confine and extinguish fire on floor 1
  • Conduct a primary search of floor 2 then floor 1
  • Ventilate the structure

Tasks – From side Alpha, teams will perform the steps needed to:

  • Place a ladder to the victim on floor 2 and assist them to safety
  • Advance a 1 ¾" attack line on floor 1 to confine & extinguish the fire
  • Advance a 1 ¾" protection line to floor 2 and conduct a right-wall

search

  • Position a 1 ¾" back-up line on floor 1 between fire and stairway
  • Set-up a PPV fan at the front door and establish an exhaust point
