How does your chapter invite TBP alumni to join?

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

4 of 67

Other methods to invite members to join? (1 of 2)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Emailing collegiate chapters to invite graduating students to join
  • Group social events to meet other TBP members - has worked in attracting some more engaged members
  • To be honest normally they tell us. We've also reached out proactively to our local chapters if we get active student lists who will stay in Pittsburgh
  • We do not utilize any other methods, at this time. We are planning to meet at chapter initiations, and invite the people we meet who are alumni to join.
  • Mailed invitations - has worked poorly
  • We are reinvigorating our Chapter
  • Personal phones call from an Officer it number is given
  • Postcards, though we haven't in a couple of years.

5 of 67

Other methods to invite members to join? (2 of 2)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Initiations and D8 conference. Undecided as we have not yet seen the impact (not yet graduated).
  • Prospecting the mailing lists, but most actives had a .edu email that expired and they never contacted anyone with their updated email
  • Mainly the weekly newsletter and via our liaisons with the student chapters
  • We always request to say a few words at / after Initiation (especially Spring) in which we invite students (esp graduating seniors) to join ONCAC or the alumni chapter where they will be living. We send an email to people on the "new to the area" list from HQ (typically with a specific event to attend).

How does your chapter communicate with members?

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

7 of 67

Other methods to communicate with members?

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Small group that we communicate with through U.S. Mail - effective for membership drive purposes.
  • We respond quickly when contacted.
  • Slack - good for officers, poor for general members.
  • Networking Dinners. We always try to discuss the NEXT event at each CURRENT event.

How do you recruit new officers?

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

13 of 67

Other methods to recruit new officers?

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Talking to graduating students to understand interest levels and then keep in touch for future opportunities.
  • Newsletter and US postal mail - not very effective
  • Support from Tricia
  • Personnel meeting at events
  • During virtual general body meetings
  • Through our student liaisons, we reached out to recent alumni to see who was interested.

14 of 67

How approach new members to be officers? (1 of 2)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Email (4)
  • By in-person chats, phone calls, or invitations to officer's meetings.
  • In person, newsletter, email, LinkedIn
  • Mention in welcome email for officer volunteers.
  • They come to us to be honest.
  • We bring up the topic ahead of our general meeting in January, then talk about it at the general meeting.
  • Personal invitation from an existing officer
  • By email/during virtual general body meetings/ during in person events.
  • Personal discussions held at monthly in-person meetings
  • Current officers are encouraged to run for office again - whether same or different - to build up on the experiences they have had currently
  • Usually in-person conversations, and notification via our newsletter.

15 of 67

How approach new members to be officers? (2 of 2)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • We send out emails to the new members describing the officer roles and positions available. Luckily this year all officers wanted to remain in office because we had no interest from other members in running for officer positions.
  • Nomination with strong encouragement
  • Chatting with them at events
  • 1-1 engagement
  • When the emails or other contact information is obsolete, we have no way to prospect for new members
  • We send out emails to advertise positions and gauge interest of our membership in serving one of the officer positions.
  • Recently reactivated, we have not needed to commission new officers yet.
  • We email them or talk to them in person (2)

Does your chapter conduct an officer transition?

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

18 of 67

What does transition consist of? (page 1 of 5)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Guidance from the previous officer to the newly elected officer
  • Zoom meeting with new and old officers to talk about policy, bylaws, and typical event cycle
  • Emails and phone conversations with all information needed to ensure success
  • Handoff meetings where the prior officer explains their duties and other important information
  • Informal turnover of duties and responsibilities; there is not a complete turnover of officers. Several members of the Executive Committee have numerous years of experience with TBP and provide assistance to the new officers as needed. Also, training is provided by the TBP Director of Alumni Affairs
  • The officers meet and also attend Tricia's new officer training session

19 of 67

What does transition consist of? (page 2 of 5)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Meeting with New elected members and President position is not voted on but the Vice president is promoted to president so there is always continuity
  • Only for Treasurer and it's informal. (Good reminder though! We'll look into this for 2025.)
  • Making sure they know the bylaws, duties, and just being there to answer any questions whenever they need help
  • Working with the new officer when performing duties
  • Transition is mostly virtually through Zoom and through email back and forths
  • Going over relevant info, bank accounts, plans, computer files, strategy, etc
  • We did not have them this year because all officers withheld their roles

20 of 67

What does transition consist of? (page 3 of 5)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • We had a 1 in-person meeting and 2 Zoom meetings to get to know each other and decide how to distribute responsibilities
  • Training one on one from past officer
  • A meeting to discuss current plans and activities as well as transfer of ownership of the required files/accounts.
  • A group meeting between existing officers and new officers
  • The president is given email access and TBP reporting site access and how to use. they are informed and shown where all the documents, templates, and photos are saved the google folder. They are also given deadline dates. It's done via Zoom and personal calls and email.
  • On the job knowledge transfer
  • Virtual meeting
  • Briefing on the roles and responsibilities

21 of 67

What does transition consist of? (page 4 of 5)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • The last officer transition consisted of one-on-one meetings between outgoing and incoming officers, with a group meeting of new officers to consolidate information. This method is subject to change with future transitions as the chapter develops further.
  • We go over the roles. We also go over what didn't go well and what went well.
  • Sharing of pertinent information about the role, infrastructure, passwords, etc. As well as "best practices". We are improving / updating / creating the documentation for each role.
  • The officer meeting following, the board structure and positions are explained. Then once positions are selected, positions specific meetings are held with previous and current position holder.

What does transition consist of? (page 5 of 5)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • This year, the President and President-Elect met with the VP (remaining), and the Secretary and Secretary Elect met. Our Director-Elects for the student chapters met with the current/outgoing directors and discussed strategy, during a conversation led by DD Michael Ustes.

  • Solicit recommendations from Tricia and then send personalized emails.
  • During events and email invitations.
  • In person asking
  • Email (3)
  • Newsletter, personal contact at events
  • #mails from President and emails from Tricia

  • Email and meetings
  • We include solicitations for the open positions in emails to the chapter

24 of 67

How does your chapter recruit officers? (page 2 of 2)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Most events, especially events that have new members and student chapters.
  • We currently have a limited approach. I would like to improve it as the new president
  • We have emailed members asking if they are interested
  • Organically or through email announcement of upcoming elections
  • Email to all alumni in the area and targeted emails to candidates with strong potential.
  • Usually from one-to-one conversations with actively participating members
  • LinkedIn / Email / Phone
  • Emails or personal recruitment
  • Word of mouth, leveraging Direct of Alumni Affairs (Tricia) for new alumni who have moved to town

Signature events (1 of 3)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Pi Day
  • Participation as Judges in the Austin Science Fair and Career Night with Texas Alpha
  • Pi Day Event. Also annual Fall picnic, and support of the regional Science Fair.
  • Pi Day Pizza Party (3)
  • Indy 500 Race-themed
  • Summer picnic for new grads to meet alumni
  • Doors Open Milwaukee - annual celebration of Milwaukee's architecture, history and neighborhoods, where local historical sites and business provide tours to the public. We find sites that are interesting to engineers to visit.
  • Reactivating Fall Craft Brewery Music Event and Spring Boiled Crawfish Event, which include LA B and LA E Collegiate Chapters

30 of 67

Signature events (2 of 3)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • We have started doing an annual trip to the botanic gardens during winter to see the blossoms of light. We held a holiday dinner prior to the gardens. This is a popular event and we get better than average interest.
  • Pi Day Event at Top Golf. We have food & drinks in addition to the driving range offerings of Top Golf.
  • I seriously would want to host an annual event. Previously we have had an annual summer potluck picnic, which also serves as our fundraiser for chapter dues. It has been on pause ever since COVID but we are actively planning for one in the coming few weeks!
  • We have many events, but very poor attendance

31 of 67

Signature events (3 of 3)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • We offer professional development and resume review sessions
  • We regularly attend a free music concert at the Wilson Barn in Livonia, watching our VP headline the event

Tau Beta Pi Day events this year (1 of 2)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Met for pizza (lunch or dinner) (10)
  • Cookie and donuts day, go against the convention of pie.
  • We tried but had to cancel. Two officers weren't able to attend and we didn't get any interest from the alumni members.
  • We had a Kung Fu Panda 4 movie screening as well as dinner afterwards!
  • Food was donated to LA E for their event
  • We were planning to celebrate pi day with pizza in March, however, Colorado had a big snowstorm that weekend so we decided to post-pone Pi Day. We are now celebrating pi day July 20th as a picnic potluck.
  • We held an in-person event. People were invited by email and welcomed to bring pie or beverages.

34 of 67

Tau Beta Pi Day events this year (2 of 2)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • We advertised and helped support the UNM Chapter's Pi Day event, which distributed pie to students at UNM in celebration of the event.
  • Top Golf
  • This is an event we share with the colligate chapters. It is a potluck. We have many activities and vote on who brings the best pie dish.
  • Tacos and Trivia
  • We rented a party room in Dearborn, MI and played TBP Jeopardy and other games

In what area(s) did your chapter struggle?

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

40 of 67

What did chapter struggle with most? (page 1 of 8)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Active member participation. We are trying to overcome this by increasing the activities for the year.
  • Member engagement - we will try to have more events with collegiate chapters and some social events for the professional members
  • Constructing an active membership base so that we can put on events successfully. It is something we are working to build up now.
  • Trying to establish partnership with local colleges - has been hard to coordinate with student chapters and get available members
  • Member participation - figuring out what interests our membership with a survey; however, not many members responded.
  • The chapter struggled a lot with officer participation, as most dropped out.

41 of 67

What did chapter struggle with most? (page 2 of 8)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • To increase member participation, we surveyed membership with the focus of improving membership attendance at events. The results of the survey will be used to craft future events. For the recruitment of officers, we are improving our communication to members including periodic newsletters and a LinkedIn page, so that they

can see our activities and understand that by becoming an active member and officer, they can contribute to the betterment of the engineering profession through student engagement and professional development. Plus have fun too!

42 of 67

What did chapter struggle with most? (page 3 of 8)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Getting interesting events for alumni. We've gotten more creative with events with some success. Collegiate chapters don't always respond but we have officers who attend/teach at those schools so that may help slightly
  • Starting up the chapter and getting members involvement
  • Recruiting new members
  • Member participation - we've started to talk about planning events farther into the future so TBP has first dibs on the calendar date.
  • We are attempting to reactivate our chapter, although very few people seem interested in doing anything.
  • Insufficient participation

43 of 67

What did chapter struggle with most? (page 4 of 8)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Member participation has been an issue, even though many people paid the dues, not many attend events. We're trying to plan more family friendly events/ welcoming significant others/friends to encourage participation.
  • Collegiate chapters dispensed thru State, trying to get more Advisor support but not completely successful yet!
  • Member participation was really scant - we averaged around 2-3 members who showed up to our socials (except for our Mentorship program that garnered a humongous, and surprising, 12 alumni member mentors). We're introducing diversity into our event choices and seeing what works and what doesn't, then building up on our strengths

44 of 67

What did chapter struggle with most? (page 5 of 8)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • We have a good group of dedicated members (mostly our officers) that are reliable and very helpful for events. However, we really struggle with participation from members outside of the 5 people that regularly attend.
  • Member participation has almost non-existent. We are at a loss as to how to improve this.
  • No one would pay dues if we charged them
  • The locations - To overcome we plan to host events in both locations over the year.
  • Retaining an active member base. Will try to overcome this by hosting 1-2, maybe 3, events before October, and recruiting new members.
  • Recruitment of officers and growing membership participation

45 of 67

What did chapter struggle with most? (page 6 of 8)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • We have always struggled to get officers. We have tried everything and when we do find people it takes a lot of persuasion to get them to do it
  • This year we have emphasized including the collegiate chapters in every event. This helps drive our relationship with the collegiate chapter and increase the attendance at our events.
  • We struggled getting engagement with an outgoing set of mostly remote officers. We also had at least one officer who was so disengaged that they claim to have not know they were an officer. I'm focusing on only local officers, and having just a couple signature events a year that we can start to build brand equity around.

46 of 67

What did chapter struggle with most? (page 7 of 8)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • The chapter membership rolls are effectively formed by the chapter officers alone, as recruitment of new members has been a challenge due to our chapter location and a lack of updated information on members relocating to the area. We are attempting to update rolls using information from headquarters as well as the undergraduate chapter at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
  • Membership Participation. Focusing moving forward on recognition and spotlighting individuals, career paths, acts of service etc.
  • Member participation. We have a few consistent attendees, but are striving for more. Trying to overcome this by reaching out to new alumni in the area.
  • Engaging with new officers

47 of 67

What did chapter struggle with most? (page 8 of 8)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • There's only one officer able to dedicate any time to the chapter.
  • Holding consistent meetings
  • There was no activity from the previous officers. We are starting from the ground up again basically.
  • Engaging officers and members to participate and fulfill their duties.
  • We are struggling to establish long-term event coordination and attendance
  • Although we have been trying to hold regular events like every other month, we see <10 members attend. We have reached out to collegiate chapters but don't hear back. The DD has not helped us even though we have reached out.

Improvement for chapter to make? (page 1 of 4)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Increase active membership by five people
  • Have a consistent group of active members
  • Increase active alumni members to better support collegiate chapter events
  • Hold more events with local college chapters
  • Recruit additional active participants and host an event
  • Identify people willing to serve in leadership/officer positions and increase the number and participation of members.
  • Find common purpose among people to serve as officers. Find what people enjoy to do on their off times.
  • Increasing members participation at events
  • Our main goal for this year is to host 1 event a month, and average 20 attendees per event

49 of 67

Improvement for chapter to make? (page 2 of 4)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Having professional panels for our members to get folks engaged. Group Panels/Expert panels, etc. Also advertising more to the student chapters
  • Focus on recruiting graduating seniors. Hand out MilAC business cards with QR code for joining at area initiations. Brainstorm ideas for keeping seniors involved after graduation.
  • Increase chapter activities
  • Increase member participation & do more k-12 outreach
  • Definitely have more member participation for our events. We've had a decent number of events this year, so having more people show up to them would be great!
  • Normal cyclical operations
  • Have more collegiate joint events
  • Improve member participation
  • Having a successful event
  • Distributed responsibility

50 of 67

Improvement for chapter to make? (page 3 of 4)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • I am hoping to have better lines of communication with the collegiate chapters. I think more collegiate-based events would improve alumni chapter attendance.
  • We're not sure about what would improve interest and/or participation.
  • I’ve tried all of the classic approaches for 3 years - I’m exhausted
  • Additional membership and subsequent participation
  • Host additional smaller events that help increase social interaction of membership.
  • Maybe host an event. We often attend initiations, we consider that an activity
  • Quarterly events, attended by any non-officer.
  • We want to hold a greater variety of events and get the DD to help us connect with collegiate chapters.
  • We could try to hold more events

51 of 67

Improvement for chapter to make? (page 4 of 4)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Continue growing Alumnus participation and more consistently. (Some events were very well attended, others far less so.)
  • More regular meetings and more consistent member involvement
  • Higher attendance at events. Goal to have 10+ attendance at half the events
  • More events and more voice from leadership
  • Engage some alumni with the collegiate chapters, either as speakers or as advisors.
  • Regular meetings, plus a planning meeting at the beginning of the year rather than trying to plan events month-to-month
  • Get momentum! Specifically hold events and retain membership engagement as well as officer participation.

Recommendations for TBP to help? (page 1 of 4)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Quicker contact lists for graduating students from local chapters
  • HQ has always been 100% supportive of GSMAC with respect to inquiries, IT issues, and any general assistance type tasks. Thank you!
  • Tricia is helpful identifying challenges and connecting officers.
  • Encouraging student chapters to work with their alumni chapters. Encouraging alumni to be more involved with their alumni chapter, making it more explicit.
  • Could TBP send an email to graduating seniors to promote the alumni chapters and how to get in touch with them and/or to expect an email from their alumni chapter?

53 of 67

Recommendations for TBP to help? (page 2 of 4)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Perhaps the national office could plan events for each alumni chapter.
  • Increased participation and shared responsibilities
  • Continue to offer cross chapter lessons-learned, best practices, mentorship
  • People don’t participate in large organizations like they did in the past
  • Having opportunities/"places" for cross-chapter collaboration outside of those hosted and prompted by the Alumni Advisory Committee. I know it is difficult than having collegiate chapters collaborate since they are in close proximity, but maybe trying to strengthen ties between alumni chapters and having online/virtual mixers might be a good idea

54 of 67

Recommendations for TBP to help? (page 3 of 4)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Subsidized events such as Pi day from HQ. Continued reinforcement of student chapter to engage with alumni chapter. Events organized by headquarters where Tricia or other TBP national officers come to the local alumni chapter area has drawn a larger crowd.
  • None, TBP does a good job supporting officers.
  • Have a consistent time of the month/week to send event emails.
  • More funding for alumni chapter events. Maybe just seed money to get engagement.
  • I wish we had email distribution and management (like MailChimp) through TBP as well as a chapter webpage on the TBP website—essential services that can survive leadership transition problems.

55 of 67

Recommendations for TBP to help? (page 4 of 4)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • None. It's just difficult to get regular engagement.
  • Continue to communicate to us, this really helps.
  • It would be nice if they can help us engage with members.
  • More events and opportunities to be social
  • Not much at this moment, TBP provides good resources for us

Greatest achievement 2023-24? (page 1 of 4)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Increased attendance to Career Night
  • Having ~12 people at our PI Day event
  • Attending GA A's initiation and having an alumni panel to support another GA A event
  • Hosting Pi Day
  • The chapter remains active
  • Puttshack
  • Consistent events each month
  • Strong coordination with our collegiate chapters

  • Collaborated on event with our local collegiate Chapter and attended multiple Initiation ceremony

57 of 67

Greatest achievement 2023-24? (page 2 of 4)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • The chapter’s greatest achievement was the BBQ that was held in the Fall, where the most people showed up.
  • The greatest achievement was to elect some officers.
  • Reviving the chapter, connecting with other alumni and serving local colligate chapters
  • Having an Offsite Planning Meeting in January to be more strategic in offering all type of activities
  • Treasurer established a PayPal system of paying dues that go straight into a chapter bank account. This makes a member’s participation easier .
  • Our mentorship program! We had a whopping 12 alumni member mentor signups and 23 collegiate student mentees from across 3 colleges (Stanford, Berkeley, and San Jose State)
  • Surviving

58 of 67

Greatest achievement 2023-24? (page 3 of 4)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • I created the first (hopefully annual) newsletter that was sent out to all FRAC members. It was a goal that I set for myself from 2023 Convention and I am happy to say that I was able to make it happen. I hope that our postponed Pi Day potluck tomorrow is also a good success.
  • Having 4 people interested in being officers and having them meet with some regularity.
  • Assisting in reinstating the IL Zeta chapter with 26 members. A lot of participation with local student chapters.
  • Finding enough officers to stay active
  • Restarting the chapter and hosting multiple events.
  • We kept the chapter active and officers remain in contact
  • We met and had chapter elections with 5+ more people than were running for office.

59 of 67

Greatest achievement 2023-24? (page 4 of 4)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Reestablishment of officers to keep the chapter active and participation in the D8 conference.
  • 1st time Dinner Cruise for 2 Pi Day celebration.
  • We saw an increase in member participation from the previous year
  • UMKC career panel. Many local TBP executives came out to support
  • We reconnected with BU's collegiate chapter
  • Finally establishing connections with the advisors of the local collegiate chapters.
  • Tau Beta Pi Day
  • Electing new officers with a fresh perspective
  • Our greatest achievement is having Jenn join the eboard and host events. The chapter wasn't hosting events before her.

60 of 67

Vision / Goals for Next Year? (page 1 of 5)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Increase interest in the chapter and active membership
  • Have officers ready to transition at election and hold 1-2 more events
  • Networking and support for collegiate chapters
  • Expanding number of events and having career chats with students
  • Recruit and host events
  • Grow the active membership base, even if they're virtual
  • Our goal is to increase the number and participation of membership and identify future leaders. Our bylaw goals are to support lifelong alumnus member involvement through hosting networking events and tours; sending a voting delegate to the TBP annual convention; assist nearby collegiate chapters; and provide opportunities for members to meet and discuss common interests.

61 of 67

Vision / Goals for Next Year? (page 2 of 5)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • The vision and goal is to look for opportunities for mentoring and volunteering to get more engaged with other folks.
  • Increase members participation
  • Higher engagement/participation. We get good participation from officers, but not consistent participation from other alumni.
  • We are planning to have at least one event per quarter.
  • Improve member participation by sending out post cards announcing upcoming events to active members & doing more k-12 outreach
  • Increase membership by 50% and have 4-6 activities
  • Regular meetings, including an initial planning meeting at the beginning of the year.
  • Hold more events and bring value to being a member of TBP.

62 of 67

Vision / Goals for Next Year? (page 3 of 5)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • Foster more alumni-collegiate chapter collaboration by assisting in any and all ways we can; strengthen our membership retention and participation; encourage officers to actively partake in event planning as well as developing the image of our chapter
  • Figure out a way to build some member participation.
  • The goal is to engage members whether they're alumni or students.
  • Regular activities including the many Tau Beta Pi members in the region and the two Collegiate Chapters in New Orleans
  • Have more collegiate events, connect with the disparate and distanced State chapters such as Notre Dame, Trine, Rose-Hulman and Valpo if that makes sense Maybe not??
  • Get participation

63 of 67

Vision / Goals for Next Year? (page 4 of 5)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • I would like more alumni participation (outside of our dedicated 5 members) and to host more interactive events with collegiate chapters.
  • Collect dues, plan more and better variety events with alumni and student chapters.
  • Reconnect with other collegiate chapters in Boston area and get more alumni engagement

  • Recruiting, structuring, and establishing a regular rotating baseline of events every calendar year. This will hopefully give the chapter an appearance of structure to current and prospective members.
  • Find new officers and host an event
  • An expansion of membership and hosting at least one major activity for members to participate in.
  • Grow membership, recruit additional officers, and host fun events.

64 of 67

Vision / Goals for Next Year? (page 5 of 5)

Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society

  • We maintain a rolling calendar which includes EC meetings; membership drive; chapter events and required chapter activities such as annual dues and reports.
  • We are re-establishing leadership.
  • Mailchimp for email comms. It would be nice for TBP to provide a license for mailchimp or equivalent email management so that we're not limited (mailchimp maxes out at 500)
  • Regular monthly officer meetings that are scheduled a year in advance.
  • Determination
  • Annual Strategy Meeting, Mailchimp for membership communication, and delegation of duties
  • Great officer leadership. Built a good connection via an early in person meeting.

  • Having contact information of collegiate chapter presidents in your area does wonders! We have had so many awesome communications and collaborative events with San Jose State and UC Davis, as well as had mentees recruited from Berkeley and Stanford! CSU SLO also invited us to their initiation! I would start by sending an email at the beginning

of the academic year to all collegiate presidents introducing your chapter to them and the ways in which you can help them. For example, an in-person meeting I had with Stanford made me realize that they weren't even aware that they could initiate graduate students - and now I am happy that they know they can!

  • Having quarterly officer meetings to plan out 3 or 4 events at a time makes the load for planning events much more reasonable.
  • Great officer leadership. Built a good connection via an early in person meeting.
  • Our newsletter is good, but few contributors
  • At least one officer attends and participates in the collegiate initiation.
  • Attend the collegiate Chapter Initiations and other events
  • We plan three events ahead and send a membership outreach email to graduated student members and new members in the area.
  • We recommend having regular communication with alumni and collegiate chapters.
