Llandudno Year 2
Dates
29th June
30th June
6th July
Why we are going?
As part of the Geography curriculum, Year 2 study what is it like to live by the coast including how the coast is used and what people do there.
Llandudno is an ideal location for this as both a popular tourist destination and a residential area. It is also a long way for a day out!
Day 1
You will arrive at school between 8:30 and 8:45 and will be welcomed into the main hall, where we will register your child and ensure they have the bags and medication needed.
At approximately 9:15 we will set off on our journey to Llandudno taking around 1hr 45mins. On the way we will stop at the coastal town of Conwy and visit the castle (one of very few surviving coastal castles in the country)
While in Conwy we will also walk through the historic fishing harbour and visit the smallest house in the UK before having our lunch.
Day 1 Continued
After lunch we will continue our journey to Llandudno.
Once in Llandudno we will then unload our luggage and receive our safety talks for the accommodation and then embark on a treasure hunt of typical coastal town features, recording how many of each we find (Our geography fieldwork)
After our walking tour of Llandudno completing our fieldwork, we will then have our evening meal at the hostel where we will be staying.
In the evening (weather permitting) we will then take a short walk onto the promenade and complete some games and activities on the beachfront.
There will then be the opportunity to to show off our Pyjamas in a pyjama parade, have a bedtime story and then settle down for the night.
Day 2
On the morning of day 2, we will have breakfast and pack our bags ready to return home later that day.
Once we are all packed, we will walk along the promenade to the Great Orme tramway, which is Britain’s only funicular, or cable-hauled, tramway that travels on public roads and has been in operation since 1902! Here, we will take a ride to the top where we will enjoy the views over Llandudno and have a picnic before getting the tram back down again.
Day 2 - Continued
In the remaining time before travelling home, we will complete a ‘big art’ activity on the beach and try to create a unique piece of artwork using the natural resources available to us on the beach.
We are aiming to leave Llandudno at around 2pm and therefore will be aiming to be back at school at approximately 4pm so that we can miss the traffic and end of Academy day collection.
Upon arrival at Monks, we will take all of the children and their belongings into the main hall and then invite parents in to collect.
Accommodation - Llandudno Hostel
The rooms are dormitory style rooms with 6-8 beds in the form of bunk beds. The adult rooms are also on the same corridor and will be signposted incase children need us in the night. We will be the sole occupants while we are staying.
Toilets and bathrooms are separate but on the same floor.
Location of accommodation.
The accommodation is only a short walk from the promenade and is situated in the middle of the beach span. This allows us to walk to all activities while on our visit.
Contact
While we are away we will endeavour to regularly update our whereabouts on the Academy social media platforms so that you can see the fun we are all having.
Children will NOT be allowed to phone home. If there is a problem, the teaching staff in Llandudno will contact school and they will contact you.
If you hear nothing, then you can assume that everything is OK.

Behaviour
Due to the nature of this residential, we will need to ensure that this children’s behaviour is as excellent as it is in school.
As a result there will be a three strike rule in place for this visit which means that if we deem behaviour in school to be unacceptable this will result in a strike (conversations with parents and teachers will be held at each occurrence). Three strikes will then result in talks with Mr Leech about whether your child is safe enough to attend this visit.
Cost
To attend this residential, we are asking for £110 and £90 for those in receipt of pupil premium funding.
There will be a non-refundable deposit of £30 due by Friday 19th December (end of 1st term)
This deposit will be used to secure places at the accommodation and transport.
The final balance will then be due 1 week prior to the visit.
