Patient health monitoring system using IOT

ESD Program 2021

2 of 21

                  Problem Statement

In today’s social protection system for patients who remains in home amid post operational days checking is done either by means of administrator/medicinal guardian. Endless watching may not be expected by this system, in light of the fact that anything can change in prosperity parameter within some fraction of seconds and in the midst of that time if the specialist is not in the premises causes more important damage. It can be changed using a handy tool which can be made available from a local store.

Union Minister of State for Health Ashwini Choubey said a total of 11,59,309 allopathic doctors were registered with the state medical councils and the Medical Council of India (MCI) as on March 31.2019.

the existing recommended nurse-to-patient ratio for the general wards in India is 1:6 by SIU and NABH, and 1:5 by INC  for non-teaching hospitals; which is significantly lower when compared to international norms.

                  Mission Statement

Nearly 27% of the total deaths in India happen with no medical attention at the time of death, according to the 2013 civil registration data released by the Census directorate.

According to experts, many people die due to lack of minor surgeries (Bell weather surgeries) and globally too in 2010, an estimated 16.9 million people died (32% of all deaths worldwide) due to lack of access to surgery and anaesthesia . A Lancet commission report says the above figure surpasses the number of deaths due to AIDS (1.46 million), tuberculosis (1.2 million) and malaria (1.17 million).

This bridge btw healthcare experts and the patients can be highly reduced using this device

                         Solution

  • The IOT based healthcare system can be used at places and times when there's a shortage of nurses or doctors. This system can signal the abnormalities using some vital signs such as electrocardiogram (ECG), respiratory signs, intrusive and noninvasive blood pressure body temperature, gases related parameters, and so forth.

Development of the device using  Embedded Systems

This will consist of many components such as

             1. Blood pressure sensor

             2. Temperature sensor

             3. Lung capacity

             4. ECG

             5. SIM 900 GSM Modem(GPRS)

             Biomedical Sensors

AD8232 is used for remote ECG monitoring by connecting ECG electrodes to the recording units with cables.

Blood pressure sensor(4811) is used to measure systolic and diastolic pressure and pulse rate in few seconds

LM35 temperature sensor is  used to measure skin surface temperature as it is more accurate than a thermistor and lung capacity is measured using an arrangement

Various biomedical parameters

1. Blood pressure

The force of circulating blood on the walls of the arteries. Blood pressure is taken using two measurements: systolic (measured when the heart beats, when blood pressure is at its highest) and diastolic (measured between heart beats, when blood pressure is at its lowest). Blood pressure is written with the systolic blood pressure first, followed by the diastolic blood pressure

ECG

  • Electrocardiography is the process of producing an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG[a]).
  •  It is a graph of voltage versus time of the electrical activity of the heart using electrodes placed on the skin.
  •  These electrodes detect the small electrical changes that are a consequence of cardiac muscle depolarization followed by repolarization during each cardiac cycle (heartbeat).

Lung capacity or total lung capacity (TLC) is the volume of air in the lungs upon the maximum effort of inspiration.

Among healthy adults, the average lung capacity is about 6 liters.

Age, gender, body composition, and ethnicity are factors affecting the different ranges of lung capacity among individuals

Spirometer

  • A spirometer is a diagnostic device that measures the amount of air you're able to breathe in and out and the time it takes you to exhale completely after you take a deep breath

INTERNET OF THINGS

The Internet of things (IoT) describes the network of physical objects—“things”—that are embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the Internet.

IoT devices are a part of the larger concept of home automation, which can include lighting, heating and air conditioning, media and security systems and camera system

ARDUINO AVR MICROCONTROLLER

AVR is a microcontroller of the ATMEL family, used in Arduino. ARM is a microprocessor. Most of the Arduino Boards come with AVR controllers.

AVR is just an integrated circuit microchip, made by Atmel.

It is a design for how the processor should work like x86 and ARM. Atmel sells hardware that has the AVR architecture in 8-,16-, and 32-bit architectures through products like ATTiny, ATMEGA ,etc

    Market Summary

Medical Devices are segregated into six major segments, out of which diagnostics imaging constitutes the largest chunk (from a global perspective), with an annual sales estimate of USD 60 billion in 2015. Next in line is IV Diagnostics, with an estimated 24% share. The global medical devices industry was estimated at USD 228 billion in 2015. At its current growth trajectory, the market is expected to reach USD 332 billion by 2020.

As far as electronic medical industry of India is considered, a report jointly published by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the government of India, the Indian medical devices market will grow to US$ 8.16 billion in 2020 at a CAGR of 16 per cent
