Progression to Dissertation

In order to progress to SPEC9999 Research Project and Dissertation, students must achieve at least a 50% average across all core modules (50 ECTS).

A student who does not achieve this threshold of 50% will exit from the MSc programme with an award of Postgraduate Diploma in Computing.

If there are a few versions of each module, go into “Restrictions” and pick the module that has TU060/1 OR TU060/2 mentioned.

Once all modules are submitted – an error message may come up as shown in previous slide. Ignore this and go back out to the main page

Confirm module selection and move on to uploading a photo and payment.

Repeating a module

• If you fail a module in semester 1 or semester 2, your next attempt is in the Supplemental Exams in August

​

• Your module is then capped at 40% (unless you had extenuating circumstances in semester 1/semester 2)

​

• If you fail any module twice, your final award in the Programme will be a PASS award

Repeating a module

If you want to repeat the module internally, you need to do the following:

• Students must contact computerscience@tudublin.ie / Assistant Head of School/ Programme Chairperson to confirm they are permitted to repeat internally.
• Complete the Internal Repeat Form‌ in full and submit it to computerscience@tudublin.ie .
• Your application form will be forwarded to Registrations.
• You will then pay your fees online.

Generative AI (GenAI)

• The School of Computer Science have a policy on the use of GenAI described in more detail here

What is Generative AI (GenAI)?

​

• GenAI is a type of Artificial Intelligence that is designed to create new things like writing text, drawing pictures, or making music, all by learning patterns from existing data.

​

• Programs like ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney, and Co-Pilot are examples of GenAI.

​

​

Different lecturers will wish you to use GenAI to different degrees.��So some might say “No GenAI allowed”, and others may say “GenAI allowed for everything”, and even others might say “GenAI for some things and not others”. ��Here’s a scale:

• Please don’t use GenAI tools (like ChatGPT, DALL·E, GitHub Copilot, etc.) for assignments or coursework unless your lecturer gives clear permission.

Why it is important?

• It’s vitally important that you develop your own understanding and skills, and make your university experience as rich as possible.

​

• Using GenAI without permission can count as academic misconduct.

​

• So please always ask if you're unsure - we’re here to help!
