Small Groups Initiative

  • To spend more time woodworking?
  • You had some fellow woodworkers to spend that time with?
  • You had access to additional tools and maybe someone to show you how to use them?

Your Tellico Village Woodworkers Club would like to introduce the Small Groups Initiative pilot.

CONCEPT

Provide more opportunities for club members to

  • expand their skills,
  • spend time with other woodworkers, and
  • contribute to club initiatives like
  • Toys for Tots,
  • Boys / Girls Club,
  • Fantasy of Trees, etc.

Small Groups Initiative

APPROACH

  • Experienced club woodworkers host a small group in their shop (Shop Owners)
  • Club members sign up for the Small Group Initiative (via an online questionnaire), indicating general skill level and other basic information
  • Questionnaire respondents are grouped into teams with Shop Owners by general skill level, and if possible geography
  • Team members determine potential projects, woodworking group meeting times, etc.
  • The real fun begins!

What Can I expect?

  • Opportunity for woodworking with 2 or 3 other club members under the guidance of a more experienced shop owner
  • To work on some basic projects determined by the Small Group and Shop Owner (some basic designs and ideas can be provided)
  • To learn additional woodworking skills (and maybe share some of your own with your group members)
  • To spend some of your time working on items that support Club initiatives

What Is Expected Of Me?

  • Be an active and enthusiastic participant in your Small Group!
  • Work safely and follow your Shop Owner’s safety and other instructions
  • Expand your skills and knowledge (stretch yourself and try new things)
  • Help cover costs for project materials, etc. (as applicable)

How long does this “initiative” run?

We will start the first few teams as a pilot in July and adjust as we go.

Will I be a part of my Small Group forever?

The intent is for the group to work through a few small projects together and to see where it takes them. Some groups may elect to disband after a while; some may form lasting friendships and continue into the future.

Will our Shop Owner be our host forever?

The intent is for the Shop Owner to get the Small Group through a few small projects. After that, the Shop Owner and Small Group can determine if they want to continue or draw it to a close.
