Human Knot

Divide into groups of 8-12
Form the Knot: (stand in a circle shoulder-to-shoulder, put your right hand in the center and grab someone else’s hand across the circle, put your left hand into the center and grab a different person’s hand)
Untangle the Knot: (work together to untangle the knot without letting go any hand.

T: Let’s get some more practice on relationship skills in a fun activity. Today, we are going to play a game called “human knot”. The objective of this game is to foster teamwork, communication, and trust across our group by having you physically work together to solve a problem.

[Divide students into groups of 8-12. Ensure that groups are small enough for everyone to participate actively. Consider putting 2 production teams together or it is also appropriate to mix up the groups for this activity!]

Instruct students to form the knot:

-have all students stand in a circle shoulder to shoulder.

-have all student put their right hand in the center and grab someone else’s hand across the circle.

-have all students put their left hand into the center and grab a different person’s hand, making sure not to hold the hand of someone directly next to them.

Instruct students to untangle the knot:

-instruct students to work together to untangle themselves without letting go of any hand. They will need to communicate, cooperate, and sometimes get creative to solve the problem.

-Encourage students to take their time, communicate clearly, and be mindful of each other’s comfort and safety.
