Individual Writing Consultations

Our consultants will work with you on your priorities for the session. You might want to talk through ideas, read to revise, or even just work silently alongside!

Consultants can also work with you on AI assisted or generated writing in any of these projects.

  • Note that consultants can’t help with AI assisted/generated writing for a course if the instructor does not allow AI use!

You will leave sessions with:

  • Some good feedback
  • Plan for developing or revising your project
  • Concrete strategies you can use in future writing

Thesis + Dissertation Writing Consultations

  • Consultants are PhD students trained to work with advanced graduate writers

  • Unlike other writing center sessions, thesis and dissertation consultations provide time for consultants to read your draft before they meet with you

  • The first appointment must be synchronous—either in-person or on Zoom. Following appointments may be In-person, Zoom, or Written Feedback

  • Only one T/D appointment per week

Opt-In Programs

  • ESOL Opt-In | for multilingual writers – esloptin@gmu.edu
  • DS Opt-In | for writers with disabilities – dsoptin@gmu.edu

Your consultant becomes familiar with your writing projects and goals, and you build on what you learn week to week.

If you want to meet with the same consultant regularly throughout the semester, sign up for an opt-in program!
