Sphere Week 3

Multiplication

WALT: work out the factors of a number

2 of 3

Factors

The factors of 8 are 1, 2, 4 and 8 because all of these numbers divide exactly into 8 with no remainders.

  1. 72 = 9 x 8, 72 = 3 x 3 x 8, 72 = 3 x 3 x 4 x 2, 72 = 2 x 2 x 18

Write these numbers as the product of some of their factors. Do this in as many ways as possible. The first one has been done for you.

  1. 24 (1 x 24, 2 x 12, 3 x 8, 4 x 6, 2 x 3 x 4)
  2. 30
  3. 48
  4. 60
  5. 96

Factors

2. 24 x 8 = 24 x 2 x 2 x 2

Write each of these in a way that would be easier to multiply by using your knowledge of factors. The first one has been done for you.

  • 69 x 8 = 69 x 2 x 2 x 2
  • 36 x 16 =
  • 16 x 6 =
  • 33 x 9 =
  • 15 x 12 =
  • 20 x 56 =
  • 60 x 24 =
  • 80 x 53 =
  • 60 x 22 =
  • 24 x 80 =
