Regional Career Specialists are liaisons between the SC Department of Education and our service area region. Our actions and deliverables are held accountable to the SCDE under Kama Staton within the Office of Career and Technical Education and Transition Services.

The RCS Role

  • The RCS serves as a liaison between the SC DOE and the assigned service region’s public funded school districts to ensure coordination, accountability and delivery of career guidance and work-based learning initiatives.
  • The RCS provides leadership and services to districts and schools by supporting grade-level, standards-based curricula through the integration of college and career-ready initiatives for students in grades K-12. 
  • The RCS supports the “learning to work” state standards of the South Carolina Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program Model thus, enhancing the delivery of career development core curriculum activities to prepare SC students to be workforce-ready.
  • The RCS coordinates and presents professional development supporting career readiness qualifiers, effective work-based learning implementation, best practices in business/industry connection, and career guidance for educators, school counseling/career guidance personnel, students, and parents. The RCS serves as the "Business/Industry Connector" for WBL placements and experiences.
  • Supports PowerSchool data tracking strategies for accurate work-based learning field entry reporting to include the work-based learning career ready qualifier for the state’s accountability system. 
  • Career guidance activities, such as classroom speakers, career fairs, mock interviews, CTSO judges, business/industry panels, lunch n learns, etc.
