Welcome and Thank You!
Thank you for coming today. We are grateful for your gift of time and perspectives in contributing your voice to Long Beach Unified School District’s (LBUSD’s) long term Vision.
This is LBUSD’s second series of engagement sessions — a key step in our iterative process of gathering input / feedback and synthesizing our collective wisdom to develop a shared vision for our community’s children. In addition, the input shared today will be considered in preparation for the LCAP and other district initiatives.
Please let us know who you are so that we can tally up all the stakeholders who have given us feedback in this step of our journey. Click on the QR code or the bit.ly to the left for a google registration form link.

Outcomes for Today
At the end of today’s session, you will have….
VISION 2035

What Is a Vision?
A Vision is an organization’s guiding idea. It is an aspirational description that expresses the desired future the organization wants to bring about in the world. The Vision works as a horizon point for the organization to move toward collectively.
What a Vision Is Not
A Vision describes What and Why. What is not in the vision is often as important as what is in the vision. Once the Vision is clear, strategic planning will identify the action steps of how we will realize this vision.
Elements of the LBUSD Vision
The Graduate Portrait Into what future world will our graduates enter and what do they need to know and be able to do to thrive in that future? The LBUSD Graduate Portrait will articulate a clear and ambitious description of the knowledge, skills, dispositions and mindsets all graduates will possess in order to thrive in the future. | The Adult Portrait For certain things to be true for graduates, what has to be true for adults? This applies to every adult working in the system The LBUSD Adult Portrait will articulate the skills, knowledge, dispositions and mindsets adults need to directly support the Graduate Portrait. | The System Portrait Every system is perfectly designed to achieve exactly the results it gets. If we want different results, how does the system need to shift in order to cultivate the culture, conditions and structures needed to achieve the results we desire? |

General Participant Guidelines
You will be prompted to read through the current descriptors for the Graduate, Adult, and System Portraits.
You will be invited to give us your perspective of priorities among the emerging themes for each of the portraits.
The themes here are not in any particular order and are drawn from the input gathered at earlier community sessions and the Guiding Coalition’s work, including learning journeys. As you shift through the emerging ideas ask yourself what is most important for LBUSD students over the next decade?
