What is it and how do I make an account?

How it works!

• Duolingo is an app/website that you can use to learn and improve your proficiency in over 30 languages. Within each level of the program, there are listening exercises, flashcards, and multiple choice questions to drill you on new words, phrases, and sentences.

• Duolingo has multiple skills, and each skill has 5 levels. Each level contains individual lessons. As you progress through the levels, you will receive crowns as you master a skill.

• Duolingo is available for the following languages in PGCPS:

• Spanish - Chinese
• French - Russian
• German - Arabic
• Japanese - Latin
• Italian
• Korean

7. You will have the option to start at the beginning (Intro) or take a

placement test and begin.

What to expect once you have logged in?

• You will receive a daily reminder via email to login to Duolingo.
• When you log in, you will have different types of questions. You will have the opportunity to hear native speakers pronounce the vocabulary words.

What kind of questions can be found on Duolingo?

​

The types of questions include:

• free translation;
• putting together a translation with a set of given words;
• speaking exercises;
• listening transcription; and
• picture matching.

What happens during and after each level?

• Each level will focus on a different theme. Each level will contain questions that build on previous lessons and will be more difficult.

• Once you complete each level, you will earn points.

Monitoring the student’s progress

• On the homescreen, you will be able to monitor your daily progress.

• After completing 10 lessons, you will be able to compete on the leaderboard.
