Importance of Al-Cu Alloys

  • Aluminum-copper alloys are mainly used in aircraft construction, where their low corrosion resistance plays a subordinate role.
  • Wire, rod, and bar for automatic lathe products. Applications where good machinability and good strength are required.
  • Aircraft structures, rivets, hardware, truck wheels, screw machine products, and other structural applications.
  • Sheet for auto body panels
  • Sheet and plate in structural components for aerospace application and military equipment

  • Aircraft Structural Components: Al-Zn alloys are commonly used in high-stress parts of the airframe, such as fuselage frames, wing spars, and ribs. Their high strength makes them ideal for load-bearing structures.

  • Landing Gear Components: The high fatigue strength and durability of these alloys make them suitable for landing gear parts, which experience significant impact and stress during takeoff and landing.

  • Skin Panels and Bulkheads: The lightweight nature of Al-Zn alloys, along with their strength, makes them an excellent choice for skin panels and internal bulkheads, contributing to overall structural integrity without adding excessive weight.

  • High-Performance Fasteners: The alloys are also used in making rivets, bolts, and other fasteners that need to withstand high-stress environments without corroding or failing over time.

  • Engine Components: Certain non-rotating engine parts also use Al-Zn alloys because of their ability to endure thermal cycling and resist deformation under high-temperature conditions.
