Don’t use light text on dark backgrounds, it uses lots of ink!
Use dark text on light backgrounds instead.
Or no background fills.
Or no box at all!

Don’t use low-resolutions screenshots! They don’t scale up very well!
Avoid ornate fonts such as this one, or this one, or this one. Please don’t use Comic Sans. Fonts for titles often have are sans serif and fonts for body text typically have serifs. There are exceptions of course. Your goal is to make the poster easy on the eyes. Ease of reading should be your primary deciding factor with fonts choices.
When inserting charts and graphs, please don’t screenshot your entire computer desktop. Only display what is necessary.
With graphs, make sure all axes and labels are legible and large enough to be read. Don’t combine different kinds of data onto a single graph.
Every graph should have a title, legible axes with units labeled and number scales readily apparent. The origin of your graph should be (0,0) if possible. Use logarithmic scaling if necessary.
72-point font is about inch tall, so 12-point font is ⅙ of an inch.
