WHAT IS A SPACE EGG?

  • It is a Robotic Spacecraft that can capture metallic debris made by other spacecrafts.
  • It uses Magnets to attract the debris made up of aluminum, titanium and other metallic components of the size 3 cm or smaller.
  • It also re-enters the Earth, bringing back all the debris collected from the space with the help of space shuttle.
  • This collected debris can then be re-used or researched upon.

DISADVANTAGE OF EXISTENCE SYSTEM

  • If we cannot stop the growth of small debris it will create a belt of debris around the earth.
  • If this happen there will be a risk to future missions.
  • It is estimated to be over 128 million pieces of debris.

INSPIRATION

  • We once watched a commercial which showed how that product could clean the charcoal infused water.
  • We also watched a documentary video which showed how the problem of space debris is real and very critical.
  • The world only now trying to find solutions on this problem, and found a few ways too, but, these are only for bigger debris pieces. The smaller pieces go untracked and hence not dealt with.
  • This gave us the idea of cleaning the space.

DESIGN

  • This project uses a deploying cargo spacecraft and oval shaped debris collectors.
  • The dimensions of the oval is 1×1 meter.
  • These will have sensors to detect the small debris. When it detects the debris it activate magnet and attract it toward the shield.
  • When it detects the debris it opens the doors, switches the magnets on and collect the debris.
  • The magnet then retracts and the doors are closed keeping the debris inside.
  • The oval will have a outer layer of shield made of whipple bumper shield . The oval itself will be made from Aluminum and FRC.

ADVANTAGES

  • Since our spacecraft has sensors and detectors, it is capable to maneuver itself and protect itself from collision with other spacecrafts or the debris.
  • Its is capable of collecting small debris.
  • The amount of matter of space shield which gets destroy will be collected with the space debris which can then be research and reuse.

  • Shield use on the space egg need to change after a specific amount of damage.
