Math: Buddy Center

  • Whisper voice
  • Sit across from your partner
  • Make eye contact
  • Work on math the WHOLE time

Number Top It

  1. Take out all 2- digit cards.
  2. Split the 1-digit cards between you and your partner.
  3. Both partners turn over two cards.
  4. Arrange your two cards to make the largest number.
  5. The student with the largest number keeps all 4 cards (in a separate pile).
  6. Play until one person runs out of cards. Start over.

Addition Top It

  • Take out all 2- digit cards and put them in the box.
  • Put the 1-digit cards (0-9 in a pile in the center).
  • Both players turn over two cards.
  • Add your own two cards to find the SUM.
  • The player with the larger sum keeps all 4 cards (in a separate pile).
  • Play until one person runs out of cards. Start over.

Coin Top It

  • Take 1 deck of cards.
  • Place the deck between you and your partner.
  • Both partners turn over a card.
  • Count the combination of coins on your own card.
  • The student with the largest amount keeps both cards.
  • Play until the deck in the center is gone. Start over.

***Challenge (each person flips two cards and find the total of both. (ONLY if you have played the regular way TWICE).

10 More, 10 Less

  • Use only the 0-9 cards. Put all others back in the box.
  • One partner turns over two cards.
  • Arrange the two cards to make the largest number.
  • Record your number and then write the number that is 10 less and 10 more.
  • The second partner checks the answers. If you disagree, try and fix the answer together.
  • Switch roles.

Continue playing until the time is up. You can try 3 cards, too!

Go Fish to 10

  • Use only the 0-10 cards. Put all others back in the box.
  • Shuffle the cards and place the deck in the middle.
  • Each player starts by taking 7 cards.
  • Partner one asks for a number that makes a complement of 10. (ex: If I have a 2, I would ask “Do you have an 8?”)
  • Partner two either gives the card away, or says “Go Fish”.
  • If you have any matches in your hand or when you draw, place them to the side together.
  • Play until the deck is gone. The winner is the player with the most complement of 10 matches!
